Scent

It's the most wonderful time of the year

Some fragrances are insanely contextual. Fresh mandarins come to mind. When I smell them on a plantation on the Mediterranean, I smell summer, lightness, sunshine. In winter, however, with candlelight and choral singing, it is one of the most Christmassy scents I know.

Now it's probably just this thing with the context that shapes my impression of Amber Kiss.

The prelude is spicy - a bit too spicy for me personally, almost peppery. I mean to sniff cardamom and a little ginger. Slowly it gets warmer, almost cuddly, but with a heavy blanket of spices hanging over everything. The shelf life is incredible - even after hours I can feel the scent clearly on my wrist. And the more of the spices disappear, the more beautiful and sweet the scent becomes. Warm, cinnamon, a touch of vanilla I would say.

But above all there is one thing that colours everything: Christmas.

And here lies the crux of the matter: is it the spicy, the warm, the woody that makes me think of the Advent season and the holidays? Or is it much more the perfumery, which already now, already decorated for Christmas, is praising the most beautiful gifts for Him and Her? I can't help but make my first plans for the festive season and put gingerbread on the shopping list.
I wonder if Amber Kiss would have had the same effect on me if I hadn't tested it until February. So now it is simply an intense Christmas scent that makes me dream of spiced almonds, sleigh rides and contemplation under the Christmas tree.
