Straight up neroli with flashes of orange blossom
Tanger smells French in a way that's hard to define exactly, only to say that French men and women tend to favor neroli-scented eaux de cologne and soaps, and that, somehow, I associate this particular floral note with them. Neroli is a material that smells at first fresh (orange-scented), then green (waxy leaves), and finally soapy-musky (freshly-scrubbed hands, white laundered cotton towels straight from the dryer). I tend to tire easily of neroli's insistently soapy drydown, so a perfume so single-mindedly focused on neroli would normally be an easy pass for me.

But Tanger makes me reconsider my blanket ban. Though I'm still not sure I like neroli enough to wear and use a whole bottle of this, I have to give credit to the perfumer for somehow managing to keep the white soapiness of the material at bay for 90% of the ride, allowing me to enjoy the parts of neroli that I love but are usually zipped through too quickly, like the dark green freshness of crushed leaves and twigs. The brief flashes of fleshy, orangey sweetness make me think that a handful of errant orange blossom petals have made it into the distilling pot. A soft, waxy amber cusps the neroli, making me nod my head when I look at the copy, which for once is completely accurate when it describes Tanger as a 'sunny, golden perfume, joyful and entirely lovable'. I'd rank this as the flanker to Hermes Eau de Néroli Doré, which means that, although nice, it is a little too simple and straight forward for an Ormonde Jayne fragrance.

Tropical ylang-ylang supported by powdery florals and a warm base
Tanger is a pretty decent fragrance that starts out with a strong tropical and powdery ylang-ylang that almost overpowers the citruses in the top notes. It doesn't take long before cashmeran comes on, giving a relaxing and comforting warmth to the perfume. Neroli unfurls its petals, giving indolic, sweetness to the fragrance. Roses are a little bit more in the background with a fruity, almost carnal aspect. Those three middle notes together form a strong floral, sweet and almost fruity accord that could've been nice, but to my nose there's an underlying screechy (synthetic?) tang that didn't go well with the rest. The drydown is a soothing blend of sweetness with creaminess and warmth. The drydown was probably the best part in this perfume.

It definitely leans feminine to my nose and has that effortless perfumey aspect that might appeal to a lot of woman, but it just doesn't fit my vibe which is why it won't be making it into my collection. For those who love florals and powderiness, this could be a great pick!

It's Ylang Ylang
"Tanger" is another offshoot of the sunny-orange Ormonde Jayne collection. It also comes with sunset vibes, citrusy and creamy. However, it has significantly more opulence and weight than one might expect. The white florals, from Ylang Ylang to Neroli. But those who know them understand that this is actually being done with the handbrake on for its type, and therefore the composition fits within this range.

Light cocktail feelings. Sunset on the beach. The perfect scent for outrun and the 80s. The slight mustiness of the arcade cabinets from back then comes along too. But in a sweet and cuddly way. More of a panty puller than a dropper. Well-behaved, naive, solid. Without alcohol, without flair. But with style and softness. Silky sea breezes, cozy sun rays, pleasant 33 degrees. Very fluffy, hardly musty anymore. However, it lacks that certain something.

Bottle: Beauty!
Sillage: Usability!
Longevity: Durability (for a summer scent) - 6-8 hours!

Conclusion: a creamy sunbed jumper from Ormonde Jayne - "Tanger" would be sharper in a thong. Otherwise quite well-behaved, gentle, and decent. Bright little flowers, just a tiny bit overwhelming.

Tropical ylang-ylang supported by powdery florals. The base is warm, comforting and creamy: the best part of it. A bit too perfumey for me.

The sun rises over the Medina of Tangier. Fresh, juicy mandarins + Mediterranean flowers in a warm, balsamic bed. Creamy sweetness.

Initially lovely citrus with mandarin and orange. The neroli is nice too, but unfortunately the scent then becomes increasingly creamy-fruity-sweet.

Starts off quite zesty and maintains a summery freshness like Chypre for a long time. The base becomes quite warm, a bit too sweet.

Good mix of fruits, citrus & flowers that initially feels fresh & then becomes warmer, rounder & sweeter over time.

Quite successful! Citrusy fruits in harmony with light woods and sweet floral aromas. A bit like Mon Précieux Nectar? Already sweet.

Beautiful, finely crafted scent - a slightly unconventional blend of wood, moss + vanilla = GREAT. A fruity floral touch on top - Voila!
