I don’t really want to open up the discussion about whether this fragrance should still be sold under the Jo Malone name at all. But somehow I have the feeling that the quality of the fragrances has declined since Jo moved on. She could have taken the name with her too.
And before anyone says: “But the fragrance isn’t even inspired by Wood Sage & Sea Salt!” That’s not what I mean at all.
It’s more this playing with the name that irritates me. You read Jo Malone and expect something similar to what you know and like, you think of that special fragrance world, and then there’s a bitter bergamot salt mixture in the bottle. And unfortunately, to my nose, it’s also more bad than good.
Maybe it’s simply a small olfactory identity crisis. Not every fragrance has to appeal to you, but here the main question that remains for me is: What exactly was this supposed to be?
I only wish they had kept the names and the expectations associated with them a little more honestly separate. Then the disappointment would probably have been smaller too.
But well, Jo, you kept the name. Now someone just needs to find the right fragrance to go with it.
