Jo Malone Wisteria and Lavender

Wisteria and Lavender

My first thought when spraying it on my skin. Oh God, Unisex, what am I supposed to do with that? - an unmistakably fresh lavender scent spreads. A bit biting, still sharp, yet unmistakable... but after a few minutes, everything becomes relative.

This is not lavender as you might know it from your grandmother or a men's fragrance. No, it’s a fresh, pure, and natural scent.

I am reminded of a walk on a cool early morning through the lavender fields of southern France. It is still cool. The dew moistens the wood, the flowers, you can feel the earth under your bare feet, the first rays of sunshine are warming up. Somewhere, other flowers are still blooming, trees stretch their branches, between which the wisteria presents its lavish flower clusters. Nature awakens.

Birds are chirping, inside, next to coffee and croissants, the FAZ or Die Zeit are waiting to be read.

I remember the film "A Good Year" with Russell Crowe, London chic, a successful stockbroker, tailored suits and jackets, an old villa, sunshine, the shine of bygone times.

Cool businessman meets the sun-drenched southern France and the memories of his childhood and youth.

The scent becomes more powdery, finer over time, its cool elegance wraps around you like a noble silk shawl.

Wisteria and Lavender is not a scent for the beach or a boisterous girls' night out or barbecue. It is elegant, successful understatement for the executive floor, an expensive club with limited membership, a stylish tea time with champagne in an upscale London restaurant, or a visit to a fine French café with café au lait and macarons.

On the skin, it lasts a good half day; I could still perceive it very well on my summer sweater the next day. A very beautiful and extraordinary scent that will keep its place in my collection.
