Classicism, Shakespeare, David Austin, and nonsense

According to Floris, "the Ledger Series stands as a testament to the passion and dedication of our perfumery team. This collection is a labour of love, bringing back nine fragrances from the Floris archive that were once discontinued. Meticulously delving into the original family formula books, our team studied and carefully revived these fragrances, ensuring they are preserving the timeless essence of Floris."
So Red Rose is a very classic rose, spiced up by a touch of geranium, cinnanom leaf and clove, with a woody background. No need to overspray, sillage and longevity are good. The result is a "complete rose" you can blind buy if you're a rose lover.
The scenery is also the epithom of an English perfume, almost a cliché. As an amateur gardener, I can't help but remember David Austin's William Shakespeare rose.
The nonsense? its price. 220 £ in the UK (expensive, but all perfumes are now expensive), BUT 330 € AND 330 $. You want it ? Wait for your next trip in London, you'll save 70 € or 50 $ and extra-bonus, you'll experiment the terrible customer service of their flagship store in Jermyn Street.

It's June, and last year's purchase can now blossom in the current temperatures, which are more reminiscent of spring.

London, 2024 - I was on a mission. The mission was to buy the fragrance that the icon Marilyn Monroe wore at Floris: Rose Geranium Eau de Parfum. On my last visit, I had tested it on paper and suddenly found myself in a green oasis. There I was, ready to buy - I just had to test it on my skin. Well, my skin turned the masterpiece into something more reminiscent of compost. The disappointment was huge.

I already knew the lady in the store from my last visit. She looked at me a little perplexed as we stood in front of the new Ledger Series shelf. The Ledger Series includes previous Floris fragrances that have been reissued based on the original formulas.
She suggested another fragrance from the series: Red Rose.
Red? My favorite color. Roses? My favorite flowers. Okay, let's give it a try.

And suddenly I was back in my mother's garden. It's 2004, and I was allowed to choose a rose when I went flower shopping. It was the deep red Baccara rose.

Wow - very photorealistic, soft, green and like a rose in bloom.

Was it the disappointment with Rose Geranium or the little trip back in time? Perhaps both. In any case, I immediately took the fragrance with me.

It is incredibly special to me - because it is so finely composed and because it evokes very specific memories in me. So the occasion for wearing it will have to be just as special. And that's completely fine.
