Beachy, sea salt-encrusted coconut and lily
Amongst the Waves is a thoroughly atypical coconut fragrance. It features coconut in its rawest, pulpiest guise without a drop of sweetness or anything that one might interpret as an Ambre Solaire note. The coconut here is fibrous and mealy at first, an impression helped by the large dose of rough, flaky sea salt – nature’s own sanding tool.
The lily notes that creep in to mingle with the coconut have been cleverly chosen, because they too are naturally salty and beachy. Together, these materials – the coconut husk, lily, salt - smell like a slab of raw steak pressed with wildflowers and sprinkled with sea salt. The savory treatment of typically sweet, creamy notes gives the scent a tousled sexiness. It smells like warm skin after a long day at the beach with its aroma of healthy body odor, lotion, and dried sea salt on tanned shoulders. This is a drowsy, natural smell – not screechy or cliché in any way.
If you like Sex and the Sea by Francesca Bianchi, Beach Goddess Eau Fraiche by Estee Lauder, or Lys Méditerranée by Frederic Malle, then you will likely also like Amongst the Waves. I recommend it in particular to those who prefer a salty-woody treatment of coconut rather than the piña colada kind. It would be heaven layered with an Yves Rocher coconut body lotion or shower gel. Think of this as a mental lift for a gray, rainy day.
