Tonka Powder: Fresh or Not Fresh?
I was inspired to blind order this perfume through an Oriflame thread in the forum...
Actually, I find most of the Oriflame perfumes to be too weak in sillage for my taste. I had bought a few out of curiosity and because of the bottle design. It was only later that I learned that the brand deliberately produces rather low-sillage perfumes because strong fragrance in public is frowned upon in its home country, Sweden.
But I decided to give the brand another chance - especially since the "Sublime-Nature" mini-series seems to be a higher-quality collection from the brand. I ordered it through a Bulgarian seller on the well-known online auction site.
So here is my personal experience report:
SN-TB definitely smells distinctly of tonka bean. Probably due to the musk, the perfume has a rather powdery and "clean" effect. I perceive it as subtly gourmand with a pleasant, moderate sweetness. I cannot detect the blackcurrants.
Is it fresh now? I was not familiar with the substance Cascalone before; according to the information here, it is an aquatic fragrance ingredient. However, I do not assess SN-TB as aquatic. Okay, it has a certain freshness in the sense of "clean-fresh," but no cool or aquatic freshness. But surely every perfume nose perceives this differently...
For me, it is more suitable for cold days than for summer heat.
Longevity and sillage are above the Oriflame average, but overall still only in the middle range.
Even though SN-TB does not reach the intensity and depth of tonka perfumes like "Tonkamande," "Tonka imperiale," or "Feve Delicieuse," it is still a pretty perfume that I can definitely recommend.
Among the Oriflames, it is one of my favorites (alongside "Mirage").
