Snow White and Rose Red
How I loved my fairy tale book by the Brothers Grimm, and you can see that affection in it: the cover worn, the paper yellowed, and some pages loose.
Long ago, I could have replaced it with a new, prettier copy, but it symbolizes a happy, imaginative childhood and surely laid the foundation for my love of stories, language, and ultimately writing.
What does this have to do with Opera in Paris?
I immediately think of the wonderful story of the two sisters Snow White and Rose Red when I spray it.
As harmonious and equal as the two were together, the white jasmine and the dark rose blend together here in perfect harmony.
After a rather lively opening, where bergamot stirs up the flowers nicely, jasmine and rose quickly take the lead and are both completely equally perceptible.
I would not have thought that these often very dominant notes could coexist so well balanced.
Like a precious silk taffeta, the scent shifts between white and dark red.
I fancy that by concentrating on one of the flowers, I can sometimes smell the rose more and then again the jasmine.
But there is something else to perceive.
A gentle, soft sweetness caresses the flowers. Is it musk? Heliotrope?
After a long exhausting dance, Snow White and Rose Red glide, creamed and powdered, onto a bed of warm wood and gently slumber towards the new day.
I find Opera in Paris to be a very beautiful floral scent that I would wear year-round, during the day and in the office, not just on festive occasions.
