Lovely oud at the intersection of different categories, not too animalic
Sampling the final of the three latest releases from Rasei Fort, The Oud Caravan, an aptly-named oud-led spicy, warm, sensual fragrance with just slight smoky and animalic hints, nothing too edgy, oud-wise. The note list is greatly varied, from rose, leather, patchouli, saffron, and pepper, to vanilla, incense, and benzoin. It’s really an epic oud for many tastes, without too much of any one element, while offering plenty in total, including some of the rose/oud vibes, some of the incense, just a pinch of gourmand, and a great array of spices. It’s very lovable and not too overwhelming for those who like to avoid oud, even though, for me, the oud is the single most noticeable note. It performs very well but like the other recent entries, is not too loud overall, and does not have a ton of evolution, which is perfectly fine by me when the scent is very good. The oud itself, especially its slightly animalic side, is the most significant note to fade over time, in fact.

Like the other recent Rasei Fort releases, The Oud Caravan is sold at Luckyscent (where I got my sample), Ministry of Scent, and Sealed Essence, and is priced quite high, at $350 for 30ml, even higher than the other two recent releases, Qahwa and Ismi, which are $250 for 30ml. Of course, at this price point, it goes without say that you likely need to love it in order to consider buying it. I regard Qahwa as my favorite of the trio, with Ismi and The Oud Caravan roughly tied for second.

This scent stays in your mind!
Once you smell it, it gnaws at you, in (almost) every minute (awake and asleep) since the first testing.
It was handed to me with the words:
"You like Oud, this one is on a whole different level!" -
and it truly is on a whole different level.

Intense, animalistic, a blow with a hammer that suddenly makes you see "new" colors.
Rose Oud in a different way, yet classic, intense yet noble.
This caravan only carries treasures!

"That's really cool" - Yes!
"That's really expensive!" - unfortunately, yes!
Consult Parfumo and the internet...
Vintage Oud, almost 10 years older than me, limited edition, once it's gone, it's gone, fomo...

This is a scent you treat yourself to, at some point, at the right time, to celebrate the day/month/year/decade.

Reason, calculation, reality, and financial concerns have no place here, or generally with scents that truly touch the heart! And that’s what makes this hobby so wonderful and at the same time so dangerous.

With the purchase, my mind hopefully has its peace now,
saying "you don't treat yourself to anything else" and knowing that you constantly treat yourself to something.
Completely unreasonable, but so incredibly beautiful.

Reason is something for people who have forgotten how to enjoy!
And this scent stays in your mind and makes you happy!!

...and the caravan hopefully won't move on for a long time...
okay, here we actually have at the beginning a representative of the much-criticized "animalistic" ouds. which should not cast any negative light (or shadow?) on it, but rather distinguishes it for me. and "animalistic" is, in my opinion, the most prominent attribute I can assign to an oud, because since I love oud, there is no "fecal" for me.

but it is much more than just that. if you take a look at the fragrance notes from the classification, you can see that pretty much every note indicated in the diagram is hidden in this elixir. and coaxing all these attributed notes from it is no masterpiece, as it rises like a small explosion of sensual impressions from the skin right after spraying.
the first impression might make one believe that it is somewhat disharmonious, as if the components are too opposing, as if there is a bit too much of everything.
too much darkness, too much freshness, too much bloom, too much sweetness, too much acidity. but this impression fades very quickly, and all the notes of the mosaic merge into a harmonious overall picture.
the more astonishing this complex fragrance painting of a hundred colors becomes when you compare the numerous notes of the classification diagram with the comparatively manageable notes of the fragrance pyramid. only then does it become clear how masterfully woven this scent is composed when it unfolds in such a wealth of impressions.
you really get pretty much every one of the indicated notes here (of course also always subject to individual perception), but never does one of the notes dominate too much, and none truly gets lost; each gets its moment to be present.

the interplay of light and shadow mentioned at the beginning is perfectly mastered. but it is not that we get an either-or, but rather a both-and. when we are briefly in the light, it lures us with its shadow; when we then go into the shadow, it promises us light again.
I caught myself, during the first tasting on test strips, having to take it in my hand again and again to smell it over and over, as I could never really "believe" it, as I could never quite grasp the scent; but it fascinates with every sniff, as it constantly plays with all its notes, almost as if the individual notes and nuances fluttered around the constantly blooming bud called oud like butterflies.
and then finally, applied to the neck, one sits contentedly and enjoys oneself, almost meditatively observing how the scent rises, envelops, and enchants. one feels good about oneself when one lets oneself be seduced by its sensuality.
...well, I admit it, I rave... I confess, I am in love...
but still for me a truly fabulous craftsmanship at the height of its abilities, which fully exploits all possibilities in this scent.

normally, I never judge the price of a perfume in the star rating. I think it is always a very personal matter what value one assigns to a scent, or generally to an object. some people spend thousands or millions on a painting that others would not value at 30 euros, or that another painter would create for a few hundred euros.
yes, 350 euros for 30ml is a very proud price. therefore, this is a scent that I will wear only very exclusively and selectively. of course, I am tempted to buy 1-2 bottles as a reserve if the financial situation allows. perhaps also due to the knowledge that this golden piece is limited because of the vintage oud contained and that this masterpiece will never be available again. therefore, I must guard it like the treasure that it is.

but despite the price, I recommend it to anyone who likes complex yet harmoniously composed ouds with a recognizable oud scent to at least test it once. before spending the same money on 100ml of a good scent that cannot captivate as thoroughly as this one, I gladly invest in such masterpieces.

fort & manlé have already impressed me with bojnokopff and late harvest, and the new qahwa is fantastic, but here he has outdone himself once again.
hats off, Mr. Rasei Fort

44 years matured - it was worth it!
The fragrance was presented to me with the words "This is a vintage oud from the 70s."
I thought I knew how oud smelled, but this was something completely different. Something entirely new.
A pleasantly fresh animalic note - like a herd of cows in the distance, their scent carried to you by a light sea breeze over green meadows. Wonderful!
The oud maturation has truly paid off.
I fell in love immediately.
Anyone who enjoys the scent of oud should definitely give this one a try. I find it significantly more pleasant and suitable for everyday wear than many oud stinkers and much less oppressive than the sweet oud compositions. I am so glad that the vanilla stays very much in the background here and the rose has none of the sugary sweetness typically associated with roses.

If you like Oud 31 or Dubai Oud, you might be in the right place. Incredibly beautiful oud with a very subtle rose and a hint of smokiness. Oud heaven!

Beautiful barnyard oud, with lots of rose. The scent is sweet right from the opening but becomes noticeably sweeter in the drydown.

Extreme animalic. Initially, the scent of a barn is very noticeable. Rose is present. Vanilla and saffron add a hint of sweetness. A statement fragrance.
