The right fragrance at the wrong time ...

Brief history : I bought Ganymede Eau de Parfum very early on in my fragrance journey, when I didn't yet appreciate depth of scent. I liked it from the beginning but it was expensive for me at the time as I wasn't that deep into the niche world yet. At some point I came across Bois Impérial as an alternative and bought it. It arrived, unpacked, sprayed on and I thought "why keep the expensive fragrance when this one will do". So I made a big mistake and sold my Ganymede Eau de Parfum.

Dazzled by the top note, I was initially happy with my decision and I continued on my fragrance journey and my expertise expanded. A good year and a half later, I discovered a new perfumery that also stocked Marc-Antoine Barrois fragrances. I had been interested in Encelade anyway and wanted to try it. It wasn't for me and the saleswoman asked me if I would also like to try Ganymede Eau de Parfum. "I already know it" I replied, but she insisted and sprayed it on a paper rose ... (oh man, how this woman loves it). I smelled it and BOOOOOM!

I didn't understand anything at that moment. I was so flashed you could tell and the sales lady just gave me a slight grin. she asked me to put the scent on my wrist and take a walk to see if I would like it down the road. After 20 minutes, I noticed so much more than I did then and I only now realize what a masterpiece Ganymede Eau de Parfum is. It is so much deeper, more elegant and more complex than Bois Impérial, which is very linear and doesn't really change as it progresses. This is still a good fragrance for the money. But now the Ganymede Eau de Parfum seemed like a bargain at €195 for 100 ml. Back at the perfumery, feeling a little ashamed of my statement that I already knew it, I bought it. The saleswoman thought it was very funny, as I didn't want to try any more fragrances from that point on.

I would definitely classify it as a men's fragrance, leathery, spicy. I love the saffron and the fragrance is just perfectly balanced. H/S is exceptionally good. I get compliments on it all the time because it just smells quite unique.

Sometimes fragrances are like love, the right person/scent at the wrong time. You shouldn't give up right after the first time and try again at another time. On that note, thank you very much for reading my review! :)
