Waxed stale linen cloth
This perfume does smell like candle wax, like those thin candles they got in some churches (or used to have, I haven't stepped foot into a church in a long time). The ones that smell a bit stale. Also linen note is much stronger on my skin than I expected. Dry, waxed, old linen cloth. I think the incense contributes to the overall dryness of the fragrance but the actual incense smell is not noticeable to my nose. An interesting concept but not for me. I can't get over how stale the waxy note smells. I prefer other Dark Tale scents.

The Turin Shroud
I was feeling dark :) So, four days ago, I ordered a small sample set (4x1 ml) from Dark Tales. Dark Tales is a small, artisanal perfumery from Uppsala, Sweden, with a certain dark flair - which naturally appealed to me.

I was allowed to assemble the set freely, but the site also offers thematic sets as well as the discovery sets from the new line by Arina Franzen, which bears the same name.

Floating Candles opens strongly with candle wax and linen notes that set the tone immediately. Here we have a noticeable sillage that can be perceived by others. Over time, a smoky base develops that rounds everything off. The scent becomes calmer but retains the candle wax/linen character. Additionally, amber, a bit of vanilla, and - at least I perceive this on my skin - a note of tobacco or tobacco flower come into play as it progresses.

Wearable? - Yes, but I don't know for what occasion. Perhaps for the embalming of a mummy in ancient Egypt? Or during the discovery of a shroud from the Middle Ages that is revered as a relic… idk.

Night.
Candles in the candelabrum.
The only light in the darkness.
Wax drips onto the wooden floor.
Warm, cozy.
Smoke in the air.

Not really that (incense) smoky, more of an exciting unique wax & linen cloth combo, less grave and almost more dry-elegant.
