Step-Siblings
For a long time, the original bottle stood upside down in the silicone bed, rarely used in my perfume shrine's bottom drawer. Now I’ve dug it out again. And I have the explanation for why it was used so seldom.
It’s the opening that I like so little. Scratchy-floral, not thorny, itchy begins the floral phase, in which strong floral notes must be mixed with heliotrope. In this, it resembles "Grain de soleil," which treats the irritating flower much more graciously and appears cheerier. Illusion feels darker, surely a tobacco pouch was also waved around, light cigarette tobacco, for pleasing - and to dampen the rebellious flower that only gradually gives up its fighting spirit. This is surely thanks to iris and semi-sweet vanilla.
And now I come to the fraternal twin: "Gucci Le Parfum" in the imposing paperweight-like bottle. It starts off rubbery, like a hot water bottle from times gone by, or like the release agents that were once used with rubber snakes - and at the same time, there is both disgust and fascination.
The two fragrances released in the same year are quite similar down to the base, the Gucci is brighter, becoming increasingly velvety, while the brother dresses darker and might be more comparable to fine suede. Patchouli? And wood. Both are quirky, delicately sweet orientals - and for me, willful children, which I don’t see only negatively.
And: Both actually do not deserve to be treated so neglectfully. Without the charmingly irritating first half hour, I would have appreciated them more.
