Creamy mango harmony
Mango scents often lean too sour on my skin, so I'm always on the lookout for creamier, sweeter, warmer mango scents and was therefore very excited to try this. And it did not disappoint!
You can really smell the ripe, juicy mango in this, but the peachy-floral osmanthus isn't hidden in the background either. They balance each other beautifully. Coconut becomes most noticeable in the drydown, and it's rather subtle. It lends a creaminess to the scent, but doesn't scream beach vacation. I think there must be some other base notes like vanilla and white musk that soften is, and maybe some unlisted floral aromas, too.
While this is a summery scent with tropical notes, it also works perfectly for spring. This is not one of those perfumes that feel out of place as soon as some clouds come up or you enter an office building. Its summer vibe feels more mellow.
Some reviewers find Fleur de Lait too generic, but i don't understand that. Ok, it's not a hyper realistic gourmand like the ads suggest, it's a bit lighter and more floral than expected. But I don't think it's too close to other fragrances, in fact I can't think of another mango scent just like this.
I also enjoy Zadig & Voltaire Art 4 All, which is another milky, creamy mango scent, but that one is more gourmand and has the roasted chestnut of the Z&V This is Her DNA, so it's different. Other mangos are either leaning further into the clean side (Paco Rabanne Fame or Lattafa Yara Tous), or they're simple monothematic fruit scents. Fleur de Lait has a beautiful harmony of realistic mango, sweet creaminess and fresh flowers that I haven't found elsewhere.
Too bad that it's so hard to find, I'll keep my eyes open for it. The only disadvantage is that it's relatively close to the skin, it could have a little more power and radiance.
