Windex-y, aldehydic, but oddly alluring
Price paid : $16 / 3.4 oz bottle
Purchased from : Bealls
Method : spray on left arm
This is the most tolerable of all the "sails" to me in the Nautica line.
That being said, it's heavily dated, and I'd even say it was dated by year #3 in the mid 90s. As a kid I remembering smelling this a few times at the mall from dudes in leather jackets walking by or in the locker room at the YMCA. It's fresh, it's green, it's aldehydic, it's quasi-clean while still being kind of animalistic in its dirty woodiness. It's like an old weathered boat that was deck scrubbed with a bucket of mop cleaner.
It's got a very signature scent that is almost offensive in the way it just seems to blow away any and all scent descriptors and simply says "it smells like Nautica green."
I get a fair bit of Windex but the Windex is green. (We have entered an alternate reality.) Jasmine and cinnamon waft up here and there with a bit of lime or orange peel, but more tropical than landlubber. It oozes images of open chested Hawaiian shirts at dusk. Again, there's some woodiness here that I had spoke of being like a weathered wooden boat. Perhaps it's more sandalwood than cedar, but still just smells like wood with a story to me.
Longevity is good. 3 hours, maybe 4 if you have not broken a sweat. Sillage is pretty strong but not Sauvage strong. You can tell when someone has just been the vicinity while wearing this. It leaves a trail. Projection is solidly 2-3".
Overall, as mildly offensive to me as this is, something keeps pulling me back and that's why I've kept it. Nothing else really smells like it, and it's from a time when nobody was copying anyone else and just wanted to make their mark on the world. I could never wear this all the time, but it's got its own signature to it and it doesn't care how you feel.
This is a good value and a good performer. It's a tough one because the scent is akin to how I feel about Japanese calpis or Thai sticky mango rice milk. It's weird and kinda great...but still weird. Most days I'd rather have a milkshake. Amirite fam iykyk wuuuuut
