Interesting scent, bad execution
Another disappointment from the house of M. Micallef. Let me preface by saying that this is not a bad fragrance at all. Just not a fragrance for me. I was excited to experience the vision of green forests, piney smell, rugged and earthy, un-apologetically masculine. To my surprise, everything is sweeter than expected. I am fan of well done and balanced sweet fragrances, but the vanilla in here just feels weird. Makes the fragrance feel disgruntled, like it's battling the ruggedness it wants to portray with a softer base that always hints at something sweet. Yes, the opening is smoky, woody and green, and I see the resemblance to Interlude Man, but this is just a more boring version of that fragrance if you want to look at it from that perspective. I would have lived with it's shortcomings, cause I can learn to love something despite not being perfect (DesirToxic L'Intense being an example).
But for the love of God, why put calone in here? I thought I was going crazy when I started getting a headache from smelling this, but I started looking at more reviews and I am thankful to have found The Perfume Guy's review on this fragrance on a house overview, and he mentioned he could smell calone in here too. If the green woodiness created a dissonance with the vanilla and leather, the calone just throws everything out of the window and says "Screw this, I am the center of attention". During the mid, it was all I could smell. Deep into the drydown it is a vanilla leather smell with touches of fir. If you don't mind calone, and are intrigued by the scent profile, give it a shot, worst it can turn into is just another nozzle sniffer fragrance on your shelf.
