A popular perfume by Olivier Durbano for women and men, released in 2007. The scent is smoky-spicy. The longevity is above-average. It is still in production.

Hard-hitting and enigmatic
In my book, French jeweller/perfumer Olivier Durbano can do no wrong.

This scent immediately unfurls with a swelling cloud of sharp black pepper and thick smoked wood... the sensation is intense and palpable; somewhat akin to inhaling the hot, heavy air inside a sauna. All the while, a rich bouquet garni of fragrant spices - cardamom, coriander and cumin - simmer beneath the surface and imbue the air with their dry, aromatic piquancy. A hiss of oudh lends an opulent richness to the composition, and it snakes its way across the glorious frankincense that I have come to recognise as the starring accord in all of Durbano's perfume creations. It is this wonderful incense/resin that is also common to Amethyste and Rock Crystal, and here, it contributes a profound 'otherworldly' appeal. As the fragrance evolves, these accords shift and interweave with dark patchouli, amber and dry woods.

Black Tourmaline is a hauntingly beautiful eau de parfum. It has phenomenal sillage and remarkable persistence, and can be enjoyed by both men and women.
Much in the same way black tourmalines were once worn by the ancients for their protection against evil; one might also wear this scent as somewhat of a 'perfume talisman'... one that strikes a curious balance between the earthbound, and the ethereal.

Olivier Durbano / Black Tourmaline
My favorite fragrance by Olivier Durbano. It is revealing, unique and unique. He has a brother Rock Crystal - equally beautiful but 'less invasive' in reception.
The smell, like Rock Crystal, is based on burnt resins (incense), in this case with a large dose of burnt wood, sandalwood and agar. Additionally, pepper and spices have been added to these caraway seeds, which all create an incredibly dark creation that adds +10 points to self-confidence and +10 to space dominance. Also, no armor is needed, all you need is a sword or an ax, a bare torso, leather pants and you can shout 'Hey adventure' or roar 'on a slope.
A truly unique fragrance, very durable (about 12 hours) with a projection to the length of the hand.
Untrained noses, fans of flowers, air fresheners and fans of sweet jams 'pumped' by large corporations in perfumeries - IT IS INDISPECTABLE :-)

Dark Smoke Clouds
Dark as a black tourmaline, this perfume is. I smell a successful mélange of pretty much everything except flowers, fruits, and citrus. It has certainly managed to capture a mineral character. Frankincense and patchouli likely play a certain role in this impression. There is also a smoky note present. The scent lies somewhere between a wintry frankincense-patchouli perfume - I think of L’Homme Sage by Divine and Nobiles Pontevecchio - and a robust smoked ham like Tauer's cowboy scent "Lonestar Memories"!

Personally, I would prefer the smoky note to be a bit more subtle. If it weren't so prominent, there would surely be much more to discover in this perfume.

Overall, it is all very dark. You probably have to look mean all the time when wearing it. A three-day stubble is a must, so this perfume is unlikely to be considered by most women.

About:
Top: Oriental spice bazaar with a distinct cumin accent, cold smoke - neat

Heart: Smoky-woody note on greasy leather, guaranteed 100% open-air museum character

Base: Resinous and woody notes, patchouli, ultra-dry ISO presence

Or also: An abandoned farm. Somewhere in the middle of nowhere. Fog-covered conifers. Pine wasteland. The stuff of nightmares. What saves the scent from these clichéd associations on my part are the extremely present spicy notes. No, it doesn't smell like sweat. No, it's not some lame Catholic incense scent either. Oud-phobics have no reason to worry. And: Once you have left these clichés behind, you might realize, as I did, that this is by no means just a fragrance for grim-looking three-day-beard wearers. Quite the opposite... This fantastic scent actually shines best on very soft, light skin. Merged with a gentle glow, true joy of life, affirmative strength, and a warm, loving smile. Only then does its inner self reveal itself, and the gloomy cold fades away forever.

A special, unique fragrance with an evocative power like very few others. One that I would never want to miss.

Black Torture
"Black Tourmaline" by Olivier Durbano should actually appeal to me. Just the comment from Apicius awakens my senses, but now that I've tested it myself... I just can't rate it positively.
Something bothers me.

Cardamom and other spices introduce the fragrance. Shortly after, the pepper makes a strong impact with a heavily smoky background. A bit of leather is added to round it off. Patchouli also makes its presence known at some point.

All in all, it's not that bad, but it doesn't really blow me away either. I just miss that certain something. Especially this smoky note becomes too strong after a while, and it really smells burnt. Even though I like incense and generally smoky notes, it's a bit too intense for me here.

A man can wear it, but he doesn't have to.

Holy Grail of smoky and incensy perfumes. Masculine, mysterious and astonishingly wearable at the same time. On of my all time favourites.

At the edge of the forest stands a cathedral. Smoke swirls through the green coniferous forest. It starts off strong, later develops a spa note.

Something between Erdal shoe polish from the '70s and an exorcism in a Catholic church with a wooden cross. Wear yes, buy no.

Very intense green, metallic smoke. With an ethereal, smoldering wood undertone. With more spices, this could have passed as Beaufort.

Wonderful green-needled, smoky-resinous, rough-woody, slightly musty foggy forest. The pyramid is a mystery to me and I don't care. Very beautiful!

Far from gentle, sacred incense scents - this is more like an exorcism: burnt, leathery, intensely spicy, earthy base.

Strong dark-mysterious, complex incense-spice-oud-leather scent. Avant-garde (Gothic?), evolves into a Dark Cologne.
