Ambroxan + spices
Speaking of Ambroxan, Parfumerie Naturelle ARARAT, the other obscure perfume from this house, smells an awful lot like Le Labo ANOTHER 13, from which I deduce that the amber listed in the notes is none other than ambroxan. This perfume, however, is better because although the ambroxan is dominant, there are some spices thrown in to add a bit of interest. ARARAT is not just bottled solvent, in other words, but a composed perfume.
This creation makes me understand why perfumers have grown fond of dumping ambroxan in a bottle and slapping a label on it. It does smell very good as a base. ARARAT is quite pleasant to wear. Suitable for men or women, this composition has a smooth woody quality like powdered cedar (that would be iso-E-super, I imagine), but somehow it smells better than all of the straight solvents being bottled as niche perfumes.
The aesthetic of this creation fits right in with SUNSHINE OVER SANTORINI: subtlety and smoothness are obviously values of the perfumer Ralph Haury. Given the success of Escentric Molecules MOLECULE 01 (one of the top ten perfumes at Aedes), this one could easily be a best seller among niche-heads if only Parfumerie Naturelle would enlist a marketer.
