A walk in an enchanted forest

This really is a stunning fragrance, beautiful and enigmatic. To me, it's the scent of a European old growth forest with cottages tucked away, forest folk making potions, elixirs and exotic dishes. It's warm with a dash of coldness, evergreen with a dash of cardamom and pepper. Citrus notes evolving into religious olibanum. It's a journey, a rather interesting and magnificent one, one that I tremendously enjoy taking.

sap [eng] originates from Proto-West Germanic sap (“sap, juice”) (compare sap [nl], Saft [de])

Top: to me I am getting more herbal than green (I don't think those two are the same. or are they?) The resin is definitely coming through. But not resin like the dried solids on tree bark, but resin like the driving life force of a tree. With an undertone of transparent green sweetness.

Middle: Hm. There is something slightly aquatic or human smelling that reminds me of ELDO secretions magnifique, which made me slightly nauseous.

Cathartic fresh, green, resinous blend

Sampling the latest release from Parfums Quartana, Forest of the Golden Dream, the follow-up to last year’s award-winning Ierofante and the beginning of a new collection that will continue through next year called “Les Potions D’Entelechie.” It’s fresh, green, aromatic, with a fine mix of trees—for me, a cross between a summery palm and a wintery mix of cypress and pine, slightly sharp but still quite calming and transportive. There are also spices and resins (cardamom, patchouli, fir balsam resin) that round it out and given it a more wintery character, even though, to me, it remains a very fresh and pleasant fragrance, albeit with a lot of nuance. It explores, as discussed in the CaFleureBon article, the healing properties of ancient cultures, and it really does smell like a healing fragrance, but not medicinal to be clear. Natural, green, multifaceted, with a comforting familiarity.

Forest of the Golden Dream is sold both via the house site and great boutiques like Perfumology, priced at $215 for 50ml in EDP concentration, and performs well, not quite as intense as Ierofante, for comparison, but still a very pleasant level of density and projection.

The dream of the forest, and why the forest has a healing effect on us.

I have long wanted to write this review about a perfume, a brand and a collection that is particularly close to my heart. Quite few people know the Quartana Perfumes brand here in Europe, and that's not entirely surprising, considering that the brand comes from the USA and is very hard to find here.

After his previous collection Les Potions Fatales, which dealt with death and the 9 most poisonous flowers in the world, was completed in 2016, a completely new collection was launched with "Forest of the Golden Dream", "Les Potions D'Entéléchie", which is dedicated to healing and life. he had worked on this with Celine Barel for 8 whole years.

The development also had another reason why it played a special role for Joseph Quartana.

in 2017, Joseph Quartana almost died due to severe gallbladder inflammation and had to undergo several serious operations. As his prospects of recovery did not look very good afterwards either, he turned to alternative healing methods and perfume as a supportive therapy/remedy.

It was decided that the perfume would be ready when it was ready and in the end it took 8 years.

But now to the perfume itself and what exactly it is supposed to convey.

The idea was that the perfume should convey a state of inner bliss. In other words, a mental state in which you feel content and happy. He gathered ideas for implementation primarily through the experiences he discovered for himself during his own healing process.

For the perfumes of "Les Potions D'Entéléchie" mainly natural highly concentrated oils are used which are characterized by health-strengthening properties. Forest of the Golden Dream is therefore intended to convey the healing effect of sun-drenched pine forests.

My own impressions of the scent :

After spraying it on, you feel like you're in a pine forest. Sunny hesperides, like distant lemon trees that enchant the region with their scent. All the fullness of a sunny Mediterranean forest reaches your nose. The scent lingers in the nose like a memory, stimulating deep breathing and bringing sunshine to the mind. It's like a walk on a beautiful day.

As you would expect with a high proportion of natural oils, the fragrance lasts a very long time and has enough radiance to wrap yourself in a scent of well-being. A perfume like this is for yourself and is not intended to be perceived by those around you.

I particularly like to use this perfume to lift my mood and relax.

Final word:

According to Joseph, the first 3 fragrances in this new collection are already finished and will be released gradually to give each fragrance the space it needs to be discovered.
The 2nd fragrance in this collection, Soleil Invisible, is now also available. On this occasion, I will also write a text about it to give curious people the best possible impression of the fragrance. I am already very excited to see what the 3rd fragrance will bring !
