Pink, not pepper
Piment was lumbered with an ill fitting name. It means capsicum or chilli pepper; but it's not hot.
It also means character or spice of life, so maybe that's what they had in mind for this variation of Azzaro pour Homme (released one year before this).
A pink rubbery floral is laid on the fougère to give a sweeter, more appealing but more shallow rendition of the musky anisic theme. It's light, and strangely androgynous for the Seventies; hard to tell if it's a boy or girl in that pink sweet fougère, certainly not as serious as the dour vintage Azzaro it's up against. And with that rubbery geranium-carnation, Piment feels old; taking Azzaro back to the likes of Knize Ten's rubbery gabardine, or Coty's green baize floral - Emeraude (1924 & 1921). The drydown is pure tonka in the style of Fougère Royale (1882).
Even though it's rather trite, I prefer Piment in a way because it's more fun.
But, it's like having your kid sister around, chattering and popping bubblegum all the time. A constant chirpiness that's hard to put up with...
