Perry Ellis m(akes) you a candy - The Caramel Charmer
I became aware of this fragrance mainly through YouTube videos, but the already very good comments on Parfumo also made me extremely curious. So, I had to make another blind purchase, which (thankfully) paid off again.
The opening features a mild anise scent that lasts about half an hour on me and feels refreshingly uplifting. Presumably, the mandarin leaf and bergamot add a fresh-green touch to the anise scent. Throughout the rest of the fragrance, vanilla is particularly dominant, with slight woody undertones. From the heart note, I can mainly smell cinnamon, which makes the scent a bit sharper and more pronounced. The combination of these notes with the rather sweet vanilla makes me think of a "masculine" caramel candy that becomes a bit more bitter on the way to the base note after a few hours.
Vetiver becomes increasingly noticeable towards the end of its longevity. Overall, the scent also evokes some memories of cigarette tobacco or the perfumed cigarettes of my aunt, which I could always smell whenever she simply opened the pack next to me. As I mentioned in my statement, I would describe the fragrance with the image of a caramel candy rolled in that light cigarette tobacco or its scent compounds. It sounds really unpleasant, but it captures the blend of modern, youthful sweetness and a slightly bitter, masculine base note quite well.
Longevity: very good; lasts at least 8 hours
Sillage: I find it just okay; however, it is present for quite a long time
Bottle: quite boring; cheap cap; catastrophic sprayer (sometimes barely dispenses anything!)
~Conclusion~
Perry Ellis m is a sweet fragrance that becomes a bit more bitter over its longevity, making it seem more mature than some other sweet perfumes from the mainstream. It gives off a confident vibe without coming across as too serious. However, due to the restrained sillage, the scent is not well perceived. Spraying too much is almost impossible, especially since the terrible sprayer does not do you any favors (the cheapest drugstore products have better sprayers than this perfume!). Overall, I find the scent very "safe" for work and evening outings, but also a bit lacking in surprises and at times (especially in the heart note) quite arbitrary, which is why a solid 8 (stars/points/whatever) is appropriate here.
