Interesting Facts

Perry Ellis, an influential fashion designer who was born in 1940, established the label that carries his

name and had a notable presence in the world of sports and casual wear.

Even after finishing high school and college, Ellis pursued a master's degree in retail and landed a job at a hip Richmond boutique. Later, Ellis joined a New York sportswear store to advance his career and was hired to design a fresh new collection. This marked Perry Ellis' creative era midway through the 1970s. All the positive feedback on his designs for women's sportswear led Ellis to establish his label in 1978 under the umbrella of "The Vera Companies." Perry Ellis became the benchmark in sportswear in the 1980s thanks to his clever concepts and global expansion.

The designs from the "Perry Ellis" fashion house modernized sportswear by adding sharp details and elements to traditional American sportswear. Coats, jackets, and loose-fitting culottes were uniquely designed to capture the mood of the early 1980s era. The softening of classic gender roles at that time was an advantage.

Meanwhile, "Perry Ellis" offers everything that could be worn outside the office including suits, shirts, polos, underwear, shoes, swimwear, accessories (hats, socks, belts, etc.), and exquisite men's fragrances.

Perry Ellis died of AIDS in 1986, although he significantly influenced the sportswear and casual clothing industry.

The label's selection is found on fragrance portals, large department stores, mail order companies, and the "Perry Ellis" website.
