Black leather monster
Today, I boldly wear Enigme de Pierre Cardin. I purchased it last May and stashed it away for cooler days. On warmer days this is a "black leather monster"! Well, today its a sporty leather coat that warms and feels like it should be on the best looking man in town. Its a brash spray of masculine self esteem in a bottle.
Looking back to the time it was released, 1992. This is a heavy hitter and in the lighter market of the time, it was a commercial flop. Had this been released in 1982, it would have outsold Drakkar Noir. Pierre Cardin was always iconoclastic and this is no exception. As the dust settles on the 20th century, this deserves an honorable mention. If I had to compare it to anything, Montana Parfum d'Homme would be closest. Both compositions are similar with Enigme having less pine and more spice. They are both wonderful tributes to classics from earlier decades.
Enigme is all about clean fresh notes that like classic deodorant bar soaps for men say "fresh shower". Lavender and citrus give way to a dominant vetiver/oakmoss shout that make it it required for fans of this style collections. The carnation gives way to light rose and jasmine wrapped in rich cinnamon, sandalwood and laudanum. All of this of course is wrapped in tight black leather without any tobacco or skanky notes. Yes, this is heavy and old school. I will say its perfect for collectors of the genre or younger men who need that little edge of confidence. This is not unisex, however the right woman could pull this off.
