I am initially very pleased with the generosity that I sometimes receive here at Parfumo. As a little extra with a fragrance package, I got some great samples and a whole 10ml bottle of this noble water. Sometimes I feel a bit guilty because I don’t know how I can repay such kindness.

Since I recently tested an unknown Majda Bekkali, I was even more curious. However, it was probably more Mon Nom Est Rouge that I had under my nose.

Tendre est la Nuit is a rather bright oriental with a good amount of incense. Ethereal and light incense. However, a lot of spiciness is added. Something definitely has a Christmas-like cinnamon quality, rounded off with a bit of pepper and a pleasant, vanillic sweetness. The scent is extremely flattering and skinny, also spicy, subtly sweet and oriental, but still transparent and rather light.
One should definitely like incense to love this fragrance, as it runs through Tendre est la Nuit permanently in a sparkling-ethereal way and is quite noticeable. I don’t recognize leather or civet, but the fragrance is at least just as good for a man to wear, absolutely unisex.

A truly wonderful scent and for me a hit. A beautiful, modern, and noble oriental with a great feel-good factor, which, despite excellent sillage and longevity, never becomes overwhelming or too intrusive, but retains a certain transparency.

Both fragrance variants (obscur and clair) of “Tendre est la nuit” are named after F. Scott Fitzgerald's novel “Tender is the Night,” which deals, among other things, with the meaninglessness of a superficial lifestyle and with relationship crises and excesses of the “Roaring Twenties,” but also with the important significance of everything that is pushed from daylight into darkness, yet always manages to assert its validity.

Delphine Thierry has created a fragrance of great finesse and depth here as well.
For me, it starts directly with animalic notes: I perceive both civet and castoreum, along with Sichuan pepper and ambrette seeds, which I really like. Immortelles and carrot are present, but rather subdued for me. (This may be related to the fact that I tested leftover samples here - I am very curious about a test from the bottle.) Davana contributes a slightly liqueur-like floral note, like small yellow flowers that close themselves off from the overly bright daylight but dare to open up in the darkness of night. I have never consciously perceived cabreuva before; it is said to smell warm, soft, sweet, woody, and slightly floral, with references sometimes given to rosewood and sandalwood - I cannot pick them out individually, but they fit well with the overall impression. In any case, a very fine, softly sweet, powdery amber base unfolds later, which then releases incense and labdanum. I really like patchouli, but I do not find it here as a distinctly prominent note.
Overall, it is a rather linear, calm development for me, but still dynamic and not monotonous.
This fragrance celebrates life - but not loudly and glaringly and grandly, rather finely and tenderly and human-friendly.

Thanks to @Midnights. and @Floyd, who arranged and surprised me to allow for extensive testing. In the meantime, it has extended my wish list…

Biker Babe

My boyfriend loves to take me on rides on his bike - but the joy is mostly on his side, as I always feel cold as a passenger, even though I've stuffed my entire wardrobe under my riding suit.
Like a somewhat dapper marshmallow figure, I mount the fiery steed - and await the things to come.
The machine roars to life, and we lean into the curves.

The wind whips against my face - but it carries all sorts of scents with it.
And that, in turn, is what I love about biking.

The fine, slightly bitter leather scent of the rider clearly rises to my nose, mixed with a daring smokiness.
Along with a spicy pepper note and deep oak moss when a forest lines the road.
Above it all hovers the scent of fuel mist and asphalt.

A very special blend that is well captured in Tendre est la Nuit.

So "tendre" is the night not at all - and not exactly delicate.
It is marked for me by movement, speed, and rugged naturalness.
There is something impetuous in the fragrance.
One is very close to nature, to the temperatures, to the speed - and this closeness is conveyed by the scent.

When I get off the bike, I feel almost relieved - but I have a strange craving for the next ride.

... intended for a small yet truly great man who had to leave the stage of his eventful life at the age of 94 on Monday: Charles Aznavour!
Just recently returned from a grand tour, full of plans and still very lively: this is how we will remember him!
His chansons will continue to accompany us: whether "Du lässt Dich geh'n," with which he tried to awaken many sluggish women in the early sixties and remind them that each of them is beautiful and lovable, or the duet with his daughter Katia, who accompanied this elegant gentleman on stage in recent times: "Je Voyage."
This chanson is about what it is like to sit silver-haired on a bench, reflecting on thoughts, letting perhaps the last spring pass by, and traveling back in time "without luggage, with the help of images, dreams, and thoughts." (FAZ, Feuilleton - October 2, 2018)

"Tendre est la Nuit" - this could very well be the title of a chanson; sung by Charles Aznavour, I can easily imagine this "Tender is the Night."
So here I attempt to dedicate an appropriate fragrance commentary to this man, whose voice accompanied my life for a long time.
Is that presumptuous? Perhaps! But it is certainly worth a try!

A scent, like a night full of tenderness!
Even in the top note, a certain boldness is revealed:
Immortelles - the straw flowers with their own slightly dusty scent, which can easily withstand long phases of dryness (even in these bound folklore bouquets), open this performance.
Always a bit peculiar, they meet carrot and ambrette seeds here: musk mallow and carrots - someone is daring something! But everything fits together.
This unique composition is interestingly combined with the oil of the balsam tree (Cabreuva).
An overture that impresses me, but also slightly unsettles: where will this night lead me? Will I lose myself in it?
It is still a bit cool and brittle; but that will soon change.
Pepper - fiery pepper of different nuances and spicy benzoin resin bring the first flames to this fragrance: it begins to radiate a warmth that one can surrender to without hesitation.
Artemisia adds a surprising herbal spiciness (for a moment I am reminded of a tea infusion).
"Tendre est la Nuit" is still warm and tender, inviting for cuddling and only gently touching the senses.
It reminds one of the familiar closeness of a lover!
Leather and castoreum awaken sensuality: this night suddenly pulses with restrained eroticism.
Hot and cold shivers alternate, the skin turns rosy - the eyes shine: the readiness for surrender grows!
Oakmoss brings a green-spicy depth, grounding for a moment the flickering passion and paving the way for three of the great fragrance notes of the perfume world: curtain up!
Golden floating patchouli, slightly scratchy, powerful labdanum, and incense: thus "Tendre est la Nuit" strides towards its most beautiful completion!
The dream of a tenderness that connects heaven and earth - from the velvety sunset to the glowing appearance of dawn!
Its longevity endures throughout the night: from the coolness of the evening's onset, through the deep velvety blackness of the night - full of heat and desire - to the light that reflects the dawn and the quietly awakening life.
Thus I feel the scent progression of this nocturnal tenderness.

Unfortunately, I cannot write chansons; not even a silly pop song.
But "Tendre est la Nuit" has become a love song in fragrance form that this unique chansonnier Charles Aznavour might have been able to capture in notes and words!
So, as a farewell, once again standing ovations and a soft "Adieu!" - he remains unforgettable!

... turns out to be a pleasant fragrance after all

I am greeted by a citrusy, very chemical resinous scent, as if I were smelling some heavily concentrated cleaning product. Oh help! For the next hour, I keep my wrists as far from my nose as possible. Slowly, a diluted version reaches me, as if a splash of the cleaning product had been added to a large bucket of water. Now it takes on a refreshing touch. O k a y! Half an hour later, I dare to bring my nose back to my wrist, and fortunately, I am now welcomed by bright, spicy incense. That is a pleasant change. This phase strongly reminds me of the recently tested "Suki Essence," which smelled of this incense throughout its duration. After some more time, I have arrived at the highly appreciated patchouli phase: softly spicy cocoa. Today, the following morning and even at noon (sprayed on yesterday evening around 9:00 PM), I can still faintly detect this bright, spicy incense.

The longevity is therefore very good, with now 15 hours - I still have a hint on my wrist. The projection after about an hour is close to the person.

Conclusion: From a dreadful start, it turns out to be a pleasant fragrance after all.
