I find the incense to be rather light and airy, yet it still has a dry crackle to it. You can almost feel and smell the fine sawdust. The nut grass definitely doesn't take a backseat, though.
The picture you're painting fits so well! I absolutely agree on the melancholic part; it even felt a bit too serious for me. But for a weekend in an old wooden cabin in the woods, there’s probably no better alternative.
It definitely has a touch of melancholy, which I have a soft spot for. The sour note seems to be picked up by my nose ;) I can't find it mentioned anywhere else.
I recently tested my first one from the brand: Leather Petals. It had something special. I just found the base a bit too distinctly modern-synthetic (maybe correlating a bit with your slightly sour impression). But it was good. I’ll definitely check out a few more to form a real opinion about the brand.
I want to test it further too. I don't actually smell any synthetics, but you're right, I sometimes get that sour note from synthetic mango in the base. I noticed that with many of the Frapins, for example.
A beautiful scent. Smoky, nutty-grassy, a bit of moss and resins. I perceive the trees more as a memory; the smell of sawdust from falling oaks transports me like a flickering image from the forest to the woodshop and back again. I'm almost a bit puzzled by the slight acidity I notice, which I struggle to place and that remains a bit of a friction point throughout the entire scent journey. Dry, warm, subtle, a bit melancholic, with a very restrained sweetness just touched by benzoin. A big thank you to UntermWert!

It must smell nice :)
