Royal fragrance for Sultan's court

I couldn't believe my eyes and my nose when I opened the box, removed the nice heavy cap from the dark bottle and sniffed this luxury fragrance right after a gentle spray.

Reyane Tradition Acqua di Parisis Essenza Intensa Black Oud opens with a perfect marriage of bergamot and cardamom, which blends smoothly into floral notes of rose, jasmine, and saffron, and then turns into woody and creamy notes of sandalwood, vanilla, amber, and musk, stimulating the senses with its complexity, while the smoky oud base adds to its strength and depth. The result is an incredibly rich, potent perfume that feels like it should be kept in a ceremonial chamber for smearing the temples and robes of Emirati royals.

The fragrance is complex but so expertly blended that each note feels like an extension of the next: spicy florals, creamy musks, animalic oud oil, smoky-sweet resins, and earthy patchouli all swirled together like cream through a cup of black coffee. A dark and mesmerizing fragrance that represents the very pinnacle of oriental and Arabic perfumery.

Black Oud Essenza Intensa is best applied 30 minutes before leaving home. The longevity is 6 to 8 hours and evolves into a complex floral heart and a drydown of amber, sandalwood and musk with the oud continuing to delight to the end.

Just a Quick "Ouded"

I kept reading about "oud" here on Parfumo, and - shame on me - I didn’t know what it was ??? So I became increasingly curious about it, and was almost shocked when I saw how expensive some oud fragrances are. By chance, I stumbled upon this scent and promptly found it for a small price at "my" online fragrance supplier (...what, so cheap...?!). Encouraged by the price and the comments here, I ordered it blind.

So: The packaging is already elegantly done. A black cloth "wrapped" box, with a golden label (stuck on). You can open the box, and inside, the bottle is "padded". The bottle is a brown flask and reminds me of old apothecary bottles. All in all, simple, masculine, and somehow classy.

Now to the scent:

Upon the first spray, a rich, red rose spreads on my wrist. Beautiful, but I am astonished, SO much rose in a men's fragrance??? I wait for a while, and something else comes in, something woody, warm. Quite pleasant, but nothing else happens that day.

2nd attempt:

A big spray in the crook of my arm... this time the rose holds back, and the woody notes come forward more clearly. But again, nothing else happens. "Oudoudoud"....WHERE are you ...*come here*...but....NOTHING...I am disappointed, it’s nice, but not exciting. So I turn to other things and forget the fragrance for a while.

But then...WAIT, what is this now??? I sense something....I sniff....is THAT OUD? This slight stable smell? THIS is what people want to smell like? Like cow dung decorated with roses??? Now I am speechless, a bit annoyed, and relieved that I didn’t spend too much money. But it was a cheap blind buy, and I can cope with the 20 euros, I’m just richer in experience.

Since I am persistent...3rd attempt:
This time the notes unite, becoming more harmonious. I perceive the rose more clearly again, the oud note blends pleasantly with the wood, becoming softer, rounder, and I am indeed happier and more satisfied than just a few days ago.
Then my husband walks into the room. *sniffs* ..."Say, did you take a foot bath?"

WHAT.........*groan*........but my husband is a "fragrance philistine" who doesn’t like perfumes anyway...

The sillage
is not very strong now, which is very pleasant for me with this scent.
Longevity
on my skin lasts about 4 hours, so you have to reapply if you want it to last longer. But for me, such things are anyway dependent on my "daily condition".

Conclusion: An interesting, dark woody scent. Quite wearable for women, as it appears soft and pleasant due to the rose. I will keep it and give it a few more chances. However, I don’t need more oud experience right now, this one is enough for me. Due to the price, it is definitely recommended for "oud beginners", you can't go wrong with it.

That the agarwood trees are endangered for oud fragrances, I only read later. This makes me sad and also angry...No, I don’t need to have an exclusive scent at any cost...

Acqua di Parisis Black Oud is not for you!
Oud is present, but neither as intense nor as strong as a horse stable or the scent from the Orient that you love to smell and use as a reference when it comes to booming oud.

-> Do you love the scent of rose?
Good, but it's not as intense here as "full steam ahead into the flower bed"

-> Woods and earth?
Alright, you get that, but don't expect a sawmill.

Okay, whatever makes you think that, this will turn your world upside down.
-> The scent:
A delicate combination of oud, rose, and light wood without any of the components dominating.
Scent development and application (call it sillage if you want) are also quite modest.
Instead of oud, one could also say fresh potting soil; oud here is a booming exotic from the Orient.
The same goes for the rose - everything is very delicate. And so is the entire scent
Apply the fragrance and after the first moments, which always take time for the alcohol to dissipate, it is just as present as one would expect from a subtle scent of oud and rose.
And the scent stays that way!

Oud/earth/wood always has something almost classic and radiates seriousness and calm.
Rose - and especially such a subtle one - is also a calm and classic scent.
But you can also go to a rodeo or après-ski in a suit or evening gown.
So if it suits you, wear the good "stuff" wherever and however you want - but don't expect to stand out too much, because the scent and sillage are quite restrained, and the sillage becomes more intimate over time.
Apply in the morning and still be able to catch a whiff in the evening; yes, that's possible!

All this and a great "bottle" plus stylish packaging for 30-40 euros.
Whether scent XY from brand Z smells the same for much more money shouldn't concern you if you - whether man, woman, or anything in between - are the type to enjoy gentle rose and mild oud.

Midnight Magic

"I thought, one of many trendy oud fragrances," when I received the scent and first smelled it at the spray head. (I "smoked" it here).
Then I sprayed it, waited, and was amazed.
Patchouli and woods, roses and (probably) garden cloves on an earthy base, yet without a "gloomy" darkness that often permeates such scents.
Here I encounter midnight magic with a starry sky and a rising moon.
I walk along a gas-lit avenue. Soft ground mist makes my feet appear translucent, but above me everything is clear and distinct.
The wind rustles through the old avenue trees, casting moving patterns on the path.
Fragrances waft around my nose, reminiscent of the last roses in nearby gardens.
Of damp forest soil, and freshly stacked wood in a barn, ready for a warming fireplace. Enchanting scent. Midnight magic. ... And from afar, I seem to catch a hint of incense. "Heavenly messenger?" I think. And "Earthly magic"?
All of this combines into "Essenza Intensa - Black Oud".
Not only the "big fragrance companies" can do this.
Magic is not a quality dependent on fame.
It simply happens.......

Hidden Gem

This little fragrance was randomly offered to me in an advertisement for just under €20. As an Oud fan - surprised by the numerous positive reviews - I thought, why not just give it a try.
It is a typical rose-oud combination. For my taste, a bit too much rose, so I would love to smell it on a woman and would definitely categorize it in the unisex corner.
Nevertheless, I was very positively surprised by the scent DNA. The appropriate association here is "harmonious." It is different from its counterpart from Acqua di Parma, in my opinion even better.
The bottle came in a very nice box with a velvet cloth and gives a very high-quality impression.
Longevity and sillage are quite average, but for such an inexpensive perfume, one more spray is acceptable.
For all oud-rose lovers, an unconditional recommendation to buy, you will not be disappointed.
