Walking in a moonlit snowy forest

This, to me, is a walk through a winter forest, the snow glistening with the moonlight shining through the bare branches of the trees. This opens very camphorous on me, the cypress very medicinal and cold, the pine sappy and sticky. I find this absolutely magnificent. It's the scent of crisp snow on broken arborvitae branches, of Christmas conifers, slightly sappy.

Cypress, thuja, arborvitae - is a favorite if mine, evoking wonderful childhood memories.

As that quiets, the woody notes change into a dry, stately cedar with hints of smoky frankincense and spicy black pepper. You've walked through the forest on your way to a midnight prayer ritual. Fire and incense burning, infusing their accents into the surrounding environs.

A base of warm musk and earthy patchouli welcome you to the prayer circle.

Absolutely divine!

A Brief Forest High

A walk in the nearby coniferous forest, in the middle of the day, for the sake of a short break.
A small joint for a brief intoxication first, then a little while longer indulging in the moss - a bath in the play of trembling light spots, painted by sun, wind, and pine needles.
Still a bit dazed, but blissfully smiling, the path leads all too soon back out of the thicket.

Forest (2020) follows its name with submissive obedience. In lush green, this forest perfume pays homage to its trees from the needles through wood, resin, and bark down to the herb-covered ground. The subtle spice of black pepper also seems quite natural in the ethereal harmony.
The smokiness creates a pleasant, meditative spirituality that especially reminds one of one or another cedar-incense blend from Comme des Garçons. And "Undergrowth (2020) | Rook Perfumes," the first Rook I was able to test recently, has a close kinship with "forest." And I must say, this one was quite a bit more exciting.

For as wonderfully beautiful and fairy-tale-like as I find this green-atmospheric feel-good scent, and as much as it corresponds to the language of my comfort zone, it is indeed also somewhat boring, lacking standout moments like the mint in "Undergrowth (2020) | Rook Perfumes."

It is a small forest, as it interrupts the fields near many towns and is quickly crossed. Unfortunately, another weakness is the very short longevity.

Open Air Sauna Feeling

Pine and Cypress had an idea one day, they wanted to create an open-air sauna feeling in the middle of the forest. They set off and got some essential oils.
Now they were looking for a quiet place.
They stripped down and rubbed themselves with the oil. Shortly after, Mr. Resin and his furry brother joined them. Now the four of them chilled for quite a while. However, Mr. Resin and his furry brother had to leave again, and Pine and Cypress continued to enjoy their sauna feeling.
Does this sound to you like there are drugs involved? I assure you, none of the protagonists smoked cannabis here.

Pepe smokes a hole in the ground

Pepe lay laughing on the needle-covered forest floor. He had just pulled his face out of the hole we had been digging for hours, several yards long. We had dug a trench in the damp ground, placed an arm inside, and then packed the earth down on top. Everything was brown soil, dry leaves, and ethereal needles. Kneeling, I crouched at the lower end of the long hole and flicked my Zippo lighter at the sticky little grass flower. We probably hadn't waited long enough after the harvest; the stuff was still as damp as the forest floor. In any case, Pepe had stuck his mouth and nose into the hole at the top and inhaled like an asthmatic with his emergency spray. Is anything coming through to you? I called up as Pepe turned onto his back, gasping. It's okay! he rasped back. Who seasoned the forest floor? Pepper, leaves, needles, earth, a bit of that stuff... I don't even know if the resin is from the plant or the tree. We giggled like children. I told you! I said before I too turned onto my back, with at least as much earth, leaves, and needles on my face as Pepe.
Now, as I swayed between the conifers under the sky with the swirling clouds, the scent profile began to come together in my subconscious, the needles crawled back into their woods, the resins became lighter, the earth more balsamic, like warm incense dipping into patchouli. It was the incense that remained, quiet like the whole forest, just a few hours, then we would soon leave.

"Forest" is a quiet needle forest, where at the beginning, between ethereal green, smoke, and pepper, light cannabis wisps still wander before it develops into the earthier, resinous, and balsamic oriental incense. Unfortunately, it only lasts about four hours on my skin and is always moderate. I never perceive it as synthetic; to me, it feels rather natural, transparent, and beautiful.
