A Cozy Cottage In a Dark Woods
The fragrance that started it all for Kerosene. While fragrances have come and gone through the house— many of which I never got a chance to smell— this freshman debut from John Pegg has stayed in production all these years, and for good reason: it's a fantastic fragrance.
It opens with a loud, sharp bitter orange note that has some green facets to it. The bitter orange note dries away relatively quick, leaving a two contrasting scent profiles. On one side, you have a damp, dark, woody oud that doesn't have that medicinal smell other oud notes sometimes have. On the other side, you have a bright, sweet, almost effervescent combination of vanilla, lavender, sandalwood, and cedar. The two scent profiles really work well to balance each other out and create a very pleasant fragrance. The scent reminds me of a cottage in a dark forest, where the smell of the damp, woody air mixes in with a garden of lavender and vanilla potpourri.
The performance is quite good. It lasts a good 6 to 8 hours on my skin, and while the bitter orange projects quite strong at the beginning, the fragrance as a whole dries down to an arms-length projection for most of the wear.
Overall, this is my personal favorite fragrance of the brand. It wears particularly well in cold weather, but it's versatile enough to be an all-year wear. Of all the fragrances that I have and wear, this is the fragrance that my friends consistently say smells like "me", and I have to agree.
