1930s woody floral beauty
At an antique store today I happened upon vintage 3.5 Oz bottle titled Bouquet Lentheric-Tweed. It was going for a song and I noticed it was still quite potent for its age. I guess its from the late 40s or early 50s.

Its quite proper and refined. It is a splash and goes on easy. It has classic leather notes that play with real oakmoss and vetiver. The floral notes take a back seat and stroll comfortably though this autumn classic. There is nothing fancy or attention grabbing about Tweed. I suppose if I put this in a spray that would liven it up a bit. Its a smart everyday kind of scent that recalls an easygoing life.

I remember it most when my sister had a cream perfume and wore it at the height of the 1960's British invasion. I don't get the swinging London scene she was trying to capture. This is more Wind in the Willows.

Fantastic vintage
Whenever I see a bottle of this in a thrift store or antique mall, I snatch it right up. Such a gorgeous, earthy moss scent. There is a seriousness to it, definitely not for a girls night out or a seduction. It would however, make a wonderful signature for an intellectual or just someone with fashion taste on the side of classic/retro. I've watched the movie "Gosford Park" too many times and in the scenes where it's shooting party day I picture the ladies smelling like this in their tweed jackets and jodhpurs. Actually, I think this is the smell of that entire movie. Seriously evocative of an overcast day in the countryside.

Old-fashioned but good
This was given to me by my Aunt who doesn't like wearing fragrances. I actually have the original bottle from the 40's and 50's. The perfume surprisingly has not gone off. Even though it is a mature scent, I often wear this to bed or around the house. It's a musty, woodsy scent with a slight green tartness. I'm probably making this scent sound horrible, but it really isn't that bad. I've certainly smelt worse.

1933 vs 1950s
I had no peace about the fact that Risque tout was marketed as Tweed in the USA.
My testing says: from the 1950s onwards, the Bouquet Lenthéric (without "au") and the Tweed Cologne Spray are very similar to Risque tout, the English stiffness has given way.
The cologne starts warm and spicy like Risque tout. Sometimes a blade or two of grass and a fan of ferns emerge from the old tweed... Lavender, neroli and ylang-ylang smooth out the green tips.
Overall, the cologne remains very balsamic, sandalwoody and a tiny bit earthy with catkins.
You settle down comfortably on the leather couch and chat. Oak moss and vetiver provide the perfect backdrop.
A little of the original tweed has been preserved in the version from the 1950s onwards; basically, post-war tweed is and remains warm (and hearty) and spicy.
