Low key elegance
An elegant ambery fragrance that features (on my skin) mostly its flowery spicy-balsamic-ambery notes, in this order. Less vanilla/flowery than Jaipur PH and more spicy-ambery than Jacomo for Men. Heliotrope, birch, incense and benzoin are also present but more in the background, giving to the whole experience a nice sweet-balsamic support. Pretty low-key oriental from the spicy semi-sweet aromatic top to the creamy-ambery drydown, good for close encounters and cold weather on special occasions. My rank 7.5/10.

Even the little noticed deserves attention
The brand S.T. Dupont was previously known to me only as a manufacturer of high-priced luxury items such as lighters, leather goods, accessories, writing utensils and watches.
Scents of this brand were unknown to me until recently. Here are 53 fragrances listed, but many of them are no longer available. And all in all the scents here fly a little under the radar.

Now one or two scents of S.T. Dupont came to my nose through a kind exchange of samples and I could see that these are really not bad or even very good
The company S. T. Dupont was founded by Simon Tissot-Dupont as early as 1872 and started producing high-quality briefcases for diplomats and wealthy businessmen. Already in 1884 it became a supplier for "Les Grands Magasins du Louvre". By the 1920s, the company already had 250 employees.
After a stagnation caused by the war and the poor availability of leather, the company switched to the production of lighters, which are still very popular today.
However, the production of leather goods could be resumed after the 2nd World War.
In the meantime, aristocrats and statesmen were also counted among the clientele.
Queen Elizabeth II received a S. T. Dupont briefcase as a gift from the then French President Vincent Auriol for her wedding in 1947 and has been a customer of the brand ever since.
Since 1998, the company has also offered perfumes that are or were distributed by Inter Parfums.

I have taken a closer look at the Signature for Men. And I liked the scent immediately Despite the quite numerous ingredients listed here in the fragrance pyramid, Signature for Men is a very pleasant and beautifully balanced fragrance that never becomes heavy or intrusive.

The attack is slightly citrusy, a little herbaceous and a nice fine spiciness is noticeable. No note pushes itself forward and a slight sweetness is added.
Woody and floral tones mix in quite quickly and I also notice a soft smoky note. One could almost think that some crumbs of tobacco have been added as well.
The base notes are actually almost noticeable from the beginning, the sweetness of benzoin, tonka and vanilla emerges very quickly, but does not make the fragrance unnecessarily heavy.
Despite the abundance of ingredients, Signature for Men does not appear overloaded or unrounded, but light-footed, bright and friendly.
The fragrance also has a good shelf life, I can perceive it for a good 8 hours. It does not spread an immense veil of scent, but it radiates quite well in the first hour
Among other things, Gucci Envy for Men is listed here as the fragrance twin. I cannot confirm this. Envy accompanied me for a long time until it was used up and unfortunately it was not to be found in the shops anymore. Envy is much darker, even herbaceous and heavier. But every nose decides differently, as we all know.

The flacon is also beautifully designed with the hinged lid and the angular shape. Thus it reminds of an inkwell or one of these noble lighters. A fine eye-catcher he is always.
Meanwhile, the fragrance has been around for 20 years, but is so timeless that it still works today.
Nevertheless, the scent is no longer produced. I suppose too little marketing led to too little attention. I also don't remember ever having seen scents of S.T. Dupont in the usual shops Some scents are a pity But recently a bottle has been in my possession and I am very happy about it.

I would like to thank Precious once again for the great fragrance experience and the big surprise!

Another discontinued jewel
Thanks to an exchange, I have been able to enjoy this beautiful perfume again. A spicy, balsamic, resinous and aromatic vanilla, exquisite, only that, I have noticed something loose as I remembered it, but it has not given it much importance, because it is surely because I, in its time, had the EDP version , and today what I have in my hands is the EDT, anyway, its aroma is the same.

I do not conceive it as a complex development aroma, since I feel it almost linear, and I say almost because, if it is true that, despite its linearity, there are times when some notes stand out over others. At the beginning it is very aromatic and sweet, light citrus nuances, lavender and spices are clearly perceived, then the conjunction of Heliotrope and cinnamon are the ones that stand out, to end with a trio of exception, Vanilla, Benzoin and amber. Although these notes are the most noticeable in its three phases, the aroma has a monolithic soul from start to finish, feeling a compact and homogeneous mixture of warm, balsamic and resinous sweetness, elegant, soft and nothing strident or cloying, a harmonious and accompanied mixture from Jaipur de Boucheron and Pi de Givenchy, orchestrated with great care and delicacy, a good ambassador of her time.

It is undeniable that the inspiration of this fragrance drinks from the, today, classics, Zino, Jaipur and Pi, and in my opinion, it successfully combines its characteristics, an achievement.

Its duration is good, exceeding 8 hours in skin, with a moderate wake, but notorious, from the beginning, ideal for cold or temperate climates and preferably for night use.

Had I known what would happen to these beautiful fragrances, I would have stocked them, today, I regret not having done so. Jaipur is a sigh of what it was, Opium pour Homme had her soul taken away, and Signature was condemned without regard. Another perfume, that being magnificent, goes through the screen of unscrupulous executives, to leave us without the pleasure of enjoying it in the future, hence, that I keep my bottle as a treasure.

Bit messy?
For me, this scent is plain *odd*. Odd – nearly weird – opening, odd evolution. The opening is a striking circus of woods, floral notes, pungent herbal notes, all wrapped into a creamy-powdery frame; I get ginger, sandalwood, cedar, something mossy underneath, “barbershop” flowers (carnation and lavender), bittersweet pungent herbs, powdery heliotrope, a whole spicy accord (the sweet type – cinnamon and tonka above all), musk, a smoky feel... complex to say the least. I wouldn’t say this smells completely wrong, as it kind of works (*kind of*), but the first minutes sound honestly a bit messy to me. Like a bunch of different perfumes fighting under your nose to get your attention. Apparently finally all voices manage to tune in on the same tones, still a bit clumsily but decently overall, and Signature focuses on a warm, mellow, smooth powdery-spicy-ambery-barbershop blend of sweet spices, heliotrope, amber, woods, greenish hints and the combo carnation & lavender. So try to imagine a bridge connecting some late ‘80s - early ‘90s classic masculine scents like Zino Davidoff or Heritage, with early 2000s trends in masculine perfumery – a more transparent texture, incense, creamy-powdery notes. Fascinating and even a bit nice, but... I don’t get why, but something seems wrong here for me. Not all the fragrance, but some parts of it. Maybe the juxtaposition isn’t that well enginereed, but I feel something smells just out of place, thus disturbing the overall harmony. It’s like an amateur chorus at their first rehearsal day – cacophonic at first, somehow barely decent at the end of the day, surely not ready yet for a Deutsche Grammophon recording session. Or whatever else; for some reasons, I can’t truly like Signature despite I like many nuances here. It’s like if they aren’t meant to be in the same bottle. However aside from this, the scent itself seems good quality, many notes smell rich and really nice, so I wouldn’t define this a “cheap” scent overall. Just partially, or maybe I don’t get it and it’s fantastic instead. By the way this doesn’t smell that similar either to Envy Men or Carven Homme to me, there’s just a bit of creamy woods and spices but also so much more here (and not in a positive meaning).
