80s Queen
Before I started writing this review, I did a bit of digging. I wanted to find out when this fragrance was released. Unfortunately, I couldn’t track down an exact launch date. It’s been listed on Amazon since 2016, so I’m guessing it came out around then. But honestly, it doesn’t smell like 2016.
The reason I even bothered looking it up is because from the very first sniff, it felt like this scent had time-traveled from another era.
You’re greeted right away by hyacinth, not soft and delicate, but bold and in your face. Think 80s queen walking into the room, and everyone turns to look. That retro vibe gets a boost from the fact that hyacinth doesn’t show up alone. She’s wrapped in a green coat that’s rough around the edges, a bit scratchy and worn, but it suits her perfectly if that’s your thing. I’m pretty sure galbanum is responsible for this raw green vibe, even if it’s not officially listed.
At first, this green hyacinth queen keeps her distance, but as the scent develops, she starts to soften up. Still, that green and slightly bitter edge never fully disappears. It’s part of her, part of the whole fragrance, but a touch of honey comes in to smooth things out a little, and then jasmine adds a bit of sweetness. The result is a scent that shifts between green and raw on one side and sweet and soft on the other, and it fades out slowly in that same balance.
