Not the scent for a deserted island
After I generously gifted my darling this fragrance (it was 30% off, but don’t tell!), I was surprised that he, as an acknowledged frequent sprayer, has hardly used it at all.
I thought to myself when I bought it - niche fragrance, the description sounds delicious, not everyone has it - and it's a consolation for the fact that he neither has a Porsche Cayenne to slap a Zanzibar sticker on the back like some of his friends, nor has he ever been to Sylt, while I spend half the day singing "I want to go back to West-aaaa-land." My intentions were therefore the noblest, but it seems it was a blow to the head.
He doesn't love Island Water by Zanzibar. What did I do wrong, wonders the good housewife and mother?
So let's do the smell test:
The top note - it’s delicious! Fresh-fruity, a slight pepperiness, thankfully no trace of sage.
The heart note - fruity-spicy, very plummy. Also delicious. Just a bit weak on the chest, you can only smell it when you bring your nose close to the skin.
Ah, there's the rub! The scent is not punchy enough for Monsieur.
Blink, and you miss it.
"Mr. Chanelle" is used to calibers like Armani Code for men, previously also Joop Homme, LP No 9 by Penhaligon's, so the island water is too thin for him.
I also find it now a bit too subtle, not to say non-existent, and that’s after just 3 hours.
I should have bought the sticker.
