Scent Floating
When I first looked through the bottlings and samples that Gelis had put "in my basket", there were so many from the company "Spezerie Palazzo Vecchio/I Profumo di Fiorenze", which I like so much, that I was already preparing for a longer stay in this beautiful city. I know how beautiful and interesting the fragrance discovery trips given here are.
But "Odissea" made me a line through this calculation; "Odissea" led me in the world of the lagoon before Venice.
Perhaps the already old and yet much loved CD "Odissea Veneziana", which contains the music of "Rondo Veneziano", plays a role in this.
Music, just as timeless and weightless as this city and always a pleasure to listen to.
"Odissea" is quite strong-spicy, the rose geranium is probably used here more in reference to aromatherapy than as a pure floral scent.
Together with Artemisia and mint it forms an herbaceous-spicy fragrance troika right at the beginning.
Immediately after the first spray, I find myself on a late summer afternoon among the islands of the lagoon off Venice. Distantly, the city floats mirage-like over the water.
Quietly, the old barge bobs along; the small waves chop gently as they awaken from their siesta.
As they do so, they set the boat vibrating as lightly as "Odissea" already does my senses. Everything is relaxed and calm, left to its own devices.
So are most of the small islands I keep encountering as I aimlessly glide through the in the water.
The resident birds greet me kindly and loudly; after all, they too have just awakened from their afternoon slumber. They let me know that now!
Old fruit and olive trees grow wildly into the sky, which does not stop them from giving birth and growing up their fruit every year.
Former farmhouses and huts are dilapidated, but some are probably used as shelters for the goats that are kept here during the summer.
Because of them, the greenery is not quite as natural and vast as it might otherwise be without a helping hand: shrubs, bushes and meadow sprawl just as they please, taking possession of the small pieces of land, but are always trimmed back by hungry goats playing with their food.
Decay can be idyllic and sad at the same time!
In the awakening afternoon, light wind plays with everything it finds, and so I too am enveloped in powerful wafts of fragrance as I rock gently along.
Artemisia and mint, full of aromatic herbal power and also very close to nature in scent, are accompanied by the freshness of bergamots, which have found their home on the island world.
"Odissea": green, spicy freshness, accompanied by woody chords, which caresses the senses, sings to it softly and soothes. As under a caressing hand becomes so tension to relaxation.
The particularly balancing fragrance essence rose geranium, known as an ornamental rather than a medicinal plant, pleasantly and a bit austere stabilizes this pleasant state.
All restlessness and anxiety seem to fall away from me; only quietly rippling waves and aroma-infused air seem to exist.
"Scent-floating" - the word comes to mind.
But not in a locked tank, sprinkled by music, but outside in sunny summer nature, intensely alive and generously sharing this wonderful power.
Thus, "Odissea" becomes for me not only a pleasantly tart and spicy eau de parfum from the long-cherished fragrance manufactory from Florence.
"Odissea" is a companion suitable for everyday use for all situations that a day so brings with it.
A fragrance that surrounds like a soothing, protective veil. Whose fragrance circle can form a very own protective space against everything loud and disturbing.
"Be welcome to me!" is all I can say.
Opened and sprayed to spend another scent-interesting day in Florence, I now find myself in a very special dream: comfort and relaxation envelop me in the web of this intense but not intrusive herbal freshness.
Odissea" offers a light fragrance float; free and unbound from place and schedule: just "fragrance floating"!
