Incense in its purest state ...

It's the first perfume I've tasted from Andy Tauer, and I can not be happier with my premiere, incense in all its expression, and beautiful on all four sides.

Despite being a perfume that tries to recreate a chord of incense, it does not seem flat at all, it has a lot of depth, and two quite differentiated phases, which, for me taste, make it a great perfume versed in incense, which has nothing to envy much more complex incense perfumes ...

It starts with a very woody incense, literally, it smells like freshly sawn pine, who has had the opportunity to cut fresh and resinous pine wood, he will know what I'm talking about. A woody aroma, fresh and very resinous, with that slight smoky tone that produces the friction of the saw with the wood, something so realistic that, even being hundreds of kilometers from my house, it transports me to the heart of Doñana, in my land natal, a real pleasure for my senses. Little by little, this initial aroma begins to smoke and feel much more resinous, with a certain leather tone, this leather is not very pronounced, but it does help to soil a little the aroma, to offer us a fragrance closer to what that we all assimilate as incense. A more smoky aroma, dense, resinous and very balsamic, almost liturgical, very much to my taste, the truth is that, any of the two phases that I distinguish in my skin, make me enter in pure ecstasy of pleasure.

The performance is good, longevity is not bad, staying in skin for 8 or 9 hours, but the wake is somewhat more moderate, being very noticeable during the first hours, and from there, going from moderate to close to the skin soon. It is not a bad performance, but costing what it costs, it could have been something bigger.

It is a clear perfume of cold and warm season, with an inclination towards the night, I do not think you can enjoy it with too much heat, although, on a cool summer night, who says it can not be used?

For me, lover of the incenses, is a must, and for all those lovers of the genre, a mandatory test, although, I do not stop recognizing that it is extremely expensive for 30ml, but the quality of what you take, it shows, and much.

A leathered incense

Thank you, Andy, for coming out with a sequence of your very excellent Tauerville series. The third installment does not disappoint. Unlike the incenses I usually gravitate towards, which are a little sweeter, this incense is manly and sharp. There is a strong pine note at the top with the woods in the background and a natural-smelling salty ambergris. A well-made, well-blended scent with a touch of leather. This is not smoky enough for me. I will love mixing this with other incense perfumes to create different effects. If I were to use one word to describe this, I would say "winter."

Soapy frankincense

Doing what it says on the tin, Incense Flash presents a somewhat abbreviated but nonetheless satisfying picture of incense resins half-smoked on the censer. It leads with a piney frankincense and quickly adds in the tarrier, bootstrap molasses nuances of myrrh for heft. It's smoky, but this is due to the resins themselves rather than the addition of birch tar, so there's air to breathe and it never quite tips over into acridity. There is some rubber and fuel detritus floating around in the frankincense accord, but that's just the nature of frankincense - anyone's who's ever bought or burned any will recognize this aspect immediately.

The dry woods and Ambroxan in the base are less satisfying to me, personally - I am never sold on the 'clean starched shirt taken off an aftershave-doused male body' accord this tandem births like a malevolent serpent into the world. Yet it is never as aggressively 'soap-powder-shot-into-your-nostrils' as Tauer's Incense Extrême, a small mercy for which I'm very grateful.

My main issue with this scent is that it smells like something I could knock together myself; there's a lazy, homemade edge to this that disappoints. Incense Flash is very fairly priced, but it's one of those products that make you aware of the mark-up while you're in the act of consuming it, like the store-bought apple tart that tastes fine, even satisfying, but you can taste that they cut a few corners and just knocked it out onto the production line in time for the 5 o' clock rush, so you're kind of questioning even the measly 6 quid you spent on it.

Easter in quarantine

In these days of self-isolation, I spend a lot of time with things that I would otherwise not have time for due to my work or social life. Among other things, writing statements and comments.

I actually only wanted to write a small statement about this fragrance, but the scent appealed to my thoughts and awakened memories.

The most important thing first: Fragrance smells like dry incense, somewhat smoky and becomes rather leathery in drydown. Shelf life is very good with me, Sillage medium to good.

As some of you may know, I am half Macedonian. My mother's family lives in the capital Skopje and I usually spend the Easter holidays there every year. Although Easter often does not fall on the same day, it is the best time for me to visit my family there. My mother always comes too, as her birthday is in April and she was bound to my brother's school holidays in the past. In summer it is too hot for her there and in winter my parents spend time with my father's family For me, Easter was also the best time for Skopje during my studies. In summer I always have to go to the sea, otherwise I go crazy. In winter I often visit my family on my father's side
My family in Skopje is big, hospitable and fun. Whenever I visit them, they try to spoil us as much as possible, although they actually have limited means. Whoever has family from the Balkans knows exactly what it's like: your grandmother cooks way too much, you eat as much as possible, because the food is also very good, but in the end she always accuses you of not having eaten enough. She then always takes it so personally. "You didn't like my food, why else would you not eat more?" But enough of that
Whatever is on the agenda, if we have the opportunity to catch the Orthodox Easter, is a visit to my favorite church. Next to Skopje is a mountain called Vodno. If you drive up it from the city, you can eventually turn quite high up and find a small church that is rather remote. We rather avoid the big city church, as it is much too crowded during the Easter time. The mass at Easter takes place at midnight and lasts quite long. This scent embodies this mass for me. The dry incense, which almost suffocates the room, much too little oxygen, because hundreds of candles are lit. The mass lasts for hours, older women faint and are brought in front of the church to catch their breath and then enter the mass again. Actually everything is a bit crazy, but still tradition and I wouldn't want it any other way.

The incense in this fragrance is very authentic. It reminds me one to one of the incense used in Orthodox churches, especially at Easter mass. The slightly smoky one fits perfectly. I know, for many people this is a repulsive smell, but for me it is a memory
It saddens me all the more that I cannot be with my family this year. The smell brings me a little closer to them. And yet an Easter with only two people is very sad for me, because otherwise I am used to big celebrations with the whole family.

I know that in this commentary I have described the fragrance to 10% and have let my heart run free to 90%, but you will forgive me for that.

Rock Church

In my childhood I spent a lot of time with my grandparents in Raron in Switzerland.

The place had a very special smell: I smelled the herbs, the rock, the ice-cold water from the Bietschloch and always a hint of sheep dung. There are two churches. One is the old castle church where Rainer Maria Rilke is buried, the other was built into the mountain - a cave, so to speak. This one is called Felsenkirche. The interior of the church I have a huge memory of. The floors were laid out with a hard-wearing, rough fitted carpet - something straw-like and equipped with long wooden benches. Sometimes I would go to church during the day when it was empty.

Incense Flash smells to me identical to the smell of the empty rock church of my memory: dry, cool, incense, a little dusty but not unpleasant. The scent of the place, which was still slightly present in the church, also flashes through a little - a hint of mountain herbs and snow air.

The durability is with more than 6h with me very good, on textiles I can notice it for weeks.

But since the scent reminds me first and foremost of a very specific place, I find it incredibly difficult to assign it to people. For me, a journey into the past, but not perfume in the classic sense...
