Autumn Shadows
Do you know Carnation Bay? Carnations stand like trees in the meadows, large bitter-green giants that cast endlessly long shadows in autumn, bright sharp spicy stripes on the resinous mist of sweet myrrh, shimmering like dew drops in the deep sun, to soften the Bay inhabitants. Do you see the nutmeg grains tumbling among the warm spicy ginger roots? They soon frolic under tiny flowers, to guard the bay in the shadow of the carnations, in the haze that smells like bay rum.
Then you see the tide moving inland, evening-red warm sandalwood cream that floods the flowers and roots in the mudflat, soon blowing away the myrrh mist, only the carnations are still visible for hours, before they sink into the balm that quietly takes everything with it at night, fading softly on the horizon.
