The Fragrance Engineers / Sohrab
Sohrab سهراب (nose: Prin Lomros)
A perfume cooked in 2017 by Prin Lomros for The Fragrance Engineers (similar to Nekro Dellamorte) and named after the tragic hero Sohrab.
Sohrāb is the legendary Persian warrior from Shahnameh, or Tales of the Ferdowsi Kings in the tragedy 'Rostam and Sohrab'. The story in Shahnameh is based on the history and mythology of the Persian Empire. Sohrab was the son of Rostam (Iranian warrior) and Tahmineh (daughter of King Samangam, a neighboring country). He was killed at a young age by his father, Rostam. Rostam only learned that he was his son after fatally wounding him in a duel. Kaykavous, the king of Iran, delayed giving Rostam a healing potion (Noush Daru) to save Sohrab because he feared losing power to a father-son alliance. Rostam gave Tahmineh a bracelet as a reminder and a sign to his son.

Sohrab perfume tells of the invasions of the Persian Gulf (now the territory of Afghanistan) through emotions and natural elements: fire, cold, glory, promises, revolutions and fallen ashes.
Notes:
-elemi
- Iranian galbanum,
-absolut of cypress,
- violet leaf,
-incense from Oman,
-ash,
-myrrh,
-styrax,
-black pepper,
- pink pepper,
-saffron,
-fire,
-ash,
-jatamansi,
-cumin,
-costus,
-grenade
and .... (you will not find this information everywhere) since the area of present Afghanistan is:
-OPIUM as well
-CHARAS (who doesn't know - live hemp seedling extract).

Well, we already have a historical curiosity about this fragrance, and in a nutshell - the tragedy and heroes of Afghanistan, great and bloody warriors from ancient Persia, ingredients related to the main sources of income in this area, the history of the region and its individual stages, fire, death, smoke and final ash. Perfume more for men, but ...... you know how it is.
Durability good, moderate projection.

in the category animalistic-furry: "Doraphilia for Guys"
Follow the mystical-sweet opium mist to a clearing in the woods at dawn. It is cool, misty, and humid incense threads lead to an abandoned fire pit - something has taken place here. The smell of fur rubbing against fur, sweat, and cold ash still lingers in the air - was it a fight or a union or both? The animal approaches, its fur dirty and damp from the earth, its sweet breath on your neck. At some point, when you have long lost your sense of time and space, you awaken on a bed of soft leaves and sweet woods and wonder if you were part of it.
_____________________________________
The "fur-animalic" created by cumin and castoreum from Sohrab instantly reminds me of Doraphilia by Miguel Matos - just more masculine, more brutal. Perhaps like a sibling scent... or the lover of Cruella... or the still-living animal of her stole...

While Doraphilia presents an opulent and shabby diva-like floral bouquet as a fur stole, Sohrab opens with a mysteriously cool forest theme. I primarily perceive the opium note, alternating with cold cypress and peppery saffron spice. It feels as if one is strolling through this clearing, where wild guys roam and rub against each other (I allow myself to draw inspiration from Floyd's statement here). Surrounded by smoky cold ash and earth (incense + Indian spikenard?), the animalistic note becomes increasingly prominent, as if "the beast" were drawing closer - threatening, raw, seductive, while intermittently something sweet flickers through. The scent alternates between airy and earthy around the fur. Finally, the fragrance softens and mellows, resinous-woody, calming both the beast and the prey.
____________________________________
Very impressive, cohesively composed scent: devilishly animalistic, raw, and seductive. Certainly a challenge and not entirely easy to wear, but still beautiful. In my opinion, more suited for a "wild guy".

(Thanks to Floyd)

Hidden in the Depths of the Forests
At first, I considered describing Sohrab in a story, but due to the abundance of ingredients and the very changeable progression, that was not practical. I had never heard of The Fragrance Engineers before; Sohrab is by Prin Lomros, and as an old tester of many Prin creations, it was natural for me to test this one as well. As always, he seems to have thought about how to name the fragrance. I generally find the stories behind it, or rather the process of naming, very good in his case, at least from an outside and rather rudimentary perspective.

Slowly, the resin armada approaches olfactorily. It's hardly noticeable what all of this is. Myrrh is definitely present; the warm, aromatic element is clearly perceptible. Typical of Prin, the Indian spikenard is also there. He uses it from time to time, and here it accompanies the other ingredients. The spikenard is usually noticeable because it has that special, somewhat earthy yet also spicy scent.
It quickly becomes sharper as the pepper kicks in. The interplay between the resin mélange and the two types of pepper is characterized by both complement and overlap. It seems as if a kind of competition has ignited, which the pepper gradually wins, at least for now. It is very intense-aromatic, very defining here.

Now, for my perception, the galbanum appears sublimely. It was briefly present at the beginning, and now it mixes with the pepper, exuding a fine yet, upon closer inspection, distinctly coniferous aura, which may initially seem strange, as the combination is not easy to digest; however, it is also intriguing. In the first test run, I wanted to draw associations with decay and moor, and we are not far off, in fact. Nevertheless, it remains a similarity, not a congruence, and it is precisely here that the differences in this phase of Sohrab compared to Mriga and other Lomros creations lie.

Hours pass, and eventually, the fire dominates. Not a burning fire inferno; perhaps there was one once, but that was a while ago. Rather, it is a memory, a reminiscence of what was. Perhaps these are the flickering fires after the battle in which Sohrab was unknowingly killed by his father. Perhaps the fragrance expresses the dilemma of the story with this Janus-faced fire, on one hand warming, on the other distant, and brings to mind a lonely piece of forest with faded fires, of which only a few wisps of smoke still tell the tale. There was once life here, events took place, but that was, not is.

All of this is endured by the Omani frankincense. Dark-smoky, intense, and latent, it lingers in the air and, although it becomes tamer after hours, it is still not docile. So, Sohrab fades away, leaving me astonished, although the ending seems only understandable. Frankincense as a resinous incense was, of course, known to the Persians; perhaps this suggests and proclaims the end of Sohrab's life. Everything fades, only the ritually burned frankincense remains, along with the memory, the myth that stays.

Prin has conjured something here that I did not expect. Sure, he can do animalic, decay, and all that. Smoke, in general, too. Yet, in this intensity and manner, it still surprised me, including the multifaceted but coherent progression. Very exciting; it will certainly need further testing to determine a purchase. We shall see. Even though the landscape of ancient Iran is surely different (I am not well-versed in that), my mind still projects that very abandoned piece of forest before my eyes, and I conclude with the thoughts I have about Sohrab: Hidden in the depths of the forests.

Fire Roller
It resembles the battlefield where Rostam and Sohrab once fought.

Overwhelming from the bottle, incredibly dense and intertwined, a wall of scents. I try to summarize.
Green-brown earth, downright dirty and marshy, fresh humus, pure peat and fire fire fire and smoke. Alcoholic notes are also buzzing around, Peated Malt Whisky. Sweat, blood, and glowing metal. This is how the dwarves must have felt when Smaug the dragon attacked the seaside city.

After a few minutes, suddenly spices join in. A lot of pepper, so much that it itches in the nose, a full broadside of cumin, something woody balsamic is lurking in the background, and I smell incense. Along with that, just fire, fire, and more fire.

After about two hours, a lot of cold smoke, ash, and burnt wood come in - this part is extremely borderline for me. Wet ash, old campfire.

Later, floral notes follow, rose, jasmine I suspect as well.

It all ends calmly on incense, spices, and burnt wood.

Well, what can I say - it's difficult to give a rating here. An extremely interesting scent, an experiment, perhaps a test of courage for some, there are certainly some members who will enjoy this scent. For me, it is not wearable and also not a perfume - but that does not diminish my rating.

After about 6 hours on my skin, I could finally catch my breath - then it became beautiful and wearable for me. The end with incense, a bit of burnt wood, and the lovely spices, also a bit of sweet wood, was quite nice.

With Lomros, it seems that "more is more." Unfortunately, this mix of resins, spices, animal notes, and smoke is coarse and clumsily put together.
