Wow this is amazing. This fragrance is very interesting the sense of how it can morph into many different scent profiles over a period of time. This starts out to my nose almost identical to reliqvia however with the musty element turned green instead. This stays for around 10 mins and then it changes to the most incredible realistic coin smell you can ever imagine. I actually got goosebumps when i smelt this and i was truly amazed at how this fragrance not only shifted so drastically but also how david was able to create this scent profile. This stays for pretty much throughout the lifespan however with time the metal softens and the greenery grows, smelling almost like zoologist king cobra actually.

too harsh for too long

i guess it's my pet peeve to judge the fragrances whether they live up to their name or not.

does this one remind me of an empty well, perhaps with a couple of rusty coins at the overgrown bottom? - definitely not in the opening. to get to that part, you have to go through seemingly endless lengths of weeds, vines and other prickly and thorny greenery.

straight up, it reminds me of my childhood - summer holidays spent at my grandma's place in a small village.
the smell of an old wooden barn - not the one you keep live animals in, but the one used to store grains and wheat. one that is surrounded by nettles from all sides, some of them creeping inside through the gaps between the planks.
playing kitchen with my grandma's old rusty pots, picking up all the random wild herbs and weeds to make "soup" out of them - milky sun spurge and birdweed left to macerate in the midday heat.
a hint of bug repellent.

unfortunately, it's too headache inducing for me to wear. by the time i summarized my initial thoughts, it made the back of my throat itch with how pungent it is, so i had to speed things up to get to the merit.
washing my hand in hot water developed the fragrance all the way into drydown, and that's where it really shines - as a faint, hazy, dreamy, melancholic flicker of decaying at the bottom of a well.

i wish it was that way from the beginning, it would be to fall in love with.

Utterly Alone

Opens sharply pungent and medicinal, punctured by a tangy metallic note. The harshness of those top notes fades after 10-15 minutes, replaced by sage, dead leaves, mineral undertone, and a bewildering sense of loneliness. This phase lasts for several hours before fading to a resin and patchouli base.

I’m always skeptical when people ascribe deep emotional states to fragrances, but the previous reviewer has it exactly right: those heart notes really do capture an astonishingly specific sense of abandonment and grief. And yet for all that, it isn’t unwearable (although I’m not sure *where* I would wear it).

Projection starts strong and fades to moderate. Longevity is approximately forever — 12 hours later and I can still smell it on my wrists. Completely unisex.

the smell of grief

This one genuinely makes me a little emotional. Empty Wishes Well captures and bottles the smell of melancholy in its most pure state. It smells like somewhere and something forgotten. A rotting wooden gazebo in the middle of a forest in the fall, and it's raining on the cobblestone path leading to it. Wet leaves are everywhere. It's more smoky and incense-y side is like smelling the clothes of a deceased loved one, found in an old attic, stacked away in cardboard boxes and eaten through by moths. It smells so intensely like a rainy fall day it almost makes me feel a little weepy; it's such a nostalgic scent, and being able to experience it any time of the year is magical.
