More niche is not possible

This perfume is everything I was prepared for by trying niche fragrances.

You start with freshies, slowly move to fougère/orientals, linger for a while with the French (Lutens/Guerlain, even Roja, often chypre/amber), then spend several years with the good artists that most laypeople can still understand and wear (Nasomatto, Zoologist, Tauer) and that most still find "beautiful."

After that, I entered a phase where I needed something in my collection that could "do more."

Birch tar/burnt wood was exactly the note I was searching for in perfection on the next level of "what do you smell like again" - the ultimate compliment when you want to smell "different."

Bois d'Ascese tries it but fails because it doesn't dare and fades quietly. Tauer's attar is too soft. A City on Fire is very close, but the sweetness in the background annoys me. Just like by the fireplace. These are attempts to deliver "burnt" while still smelling "good."

No Perfume is exactly what I'm looking for. Art. (t-rex by Zoologist closely follows)

Tar without any roundness, really smells like burnt wood. Aggressive, leathery, dark, heavy, and at first glance, hard to wear. Lasts for WEEKS and survives multiple washes on clothes.

For true connoisseurs, an absolute revelation. In public, such a strong statement that you certainly have to deal with people even complaining.

I love this scent and am still in the process of building a friend circle where I can wear this as my signature.

Or I will continue to enjoy sitting near the window and occasionally receiving a compliment from a smoke lover.

I needed several tries to figure out if 'No Perfume' is just bold and interesting or also wearable. But now that I've had it for a few weeks, I'm sure it's the latter. It's a slightly rougher, softer T-Rex without being tame, a more exciting version of CDG's 'Black'. I love the scent and have even received compliments on it.
I can totally relate to your journey; mine is quite similar. The question remains: What else can come next???

Excellent observation and wonderfully written! I can only confirm that, especially with all the mentioned fragrances. How predictable is this hobby, really? 😂

Wonderful!
You have to prepare yourself for niche fragrances step by step, that's true. Unfortunately, I don't know this scent here, but I've come to love birch tar. And the T-Rex is amazing ❤

@whadelse89 CdG Black is super wild, but on my skin, it’s just licorice. I guess I’ll have to try the others.

It's quite nice, just like Hyde, 1805, and CdG Black.

Yes, it doesn't get much better than this; it's straightforward and without much fuss.

I can't contain myself anymore....
I don't know the scent, but I enjoyed reading your review. You described your olfactory journey so precisely. A true pleasure to read. Now, about the friend circle...
I had to laugh at that. Building a friend circle based on a signature scent... that's the final stage. Ever.
Now I know what awaits me at the end of the fragrance rainbow. And I can totally relate. By the way... I’m no longer allowed in the marital bed with By Fireplace. We've come that far.
