Incense and labdanum...

So, this has been described in the Perfume Bible as "carried by frankincense".

Well, it is good. Dark and smoky and truth be told, frankincense IS the main player here. Vetiver, suede and benzoin are appearing for guest performances in between as well, and the mixing of the composition seems somehow quite effortless with the cistus labdanum lurking in the background at all times. The first times wearing it I thought the longevity was a bit of a joke, as it disappeared after about three hours, but this turns out to be only the sillage, as I can still smell it on my skin after about 8 hours.

Truly interesting, if you're into smoky and incense-based stuff.

Cool misty veils swirl over the clearing. The warmth of the day flees into twilight. The forest has become silent. The daytime animals have retreated into the protective evening shadows. The quiet breath of the trees whispers resinous dreams.

Somewhere nearby, though well hidden from unknowing eyes, a witch performs her ritual work. Next to her on the ground, white incense wisps twist like snakes from a shallow incense bowl. Not far from there, a sweet-spicy brew simmers over a smoking wood fire. From time to time, the witch takes a new handful of dried herbs from her leather pouch to toss into the bubbling concoction. She murmurs incantations, softly and rhythmically, as she slowly stirs her potion. The small copper cauldron captures the last glowing rays of the evening sun.

But the witch must hurry, for the owls are already shaking the sleep of the day from their feathers. The furry hunters of the night still stretch sleepily in their dens, but soon they will groom their shiny coats and take in the scent of the darkness. Already, it begins to rustle in the underbrush. Moon-silvered pairs of eyes pierce the encroaching night.

Yes, the witch must hurry, for only at this predetermined hour can she set out with them. Only then does the magical veil between the worlds lift, and she can become one with the creatures of the night, with their skin, their breath, their heartbeat, and their blood.

“Resin Sacra” is an intensely resinous, smoky-woody, and slightly sweet-herb spiced fragrance. Patchouli adds a dark earthy note. Frankincense and leather envelop the whole with subtly tinted aromatic undertones.

Oh yes, I like this scent. Very much, for I enjoy flying with the owls through the night.

Heilig's Blechle, what a brilliant resin scent!

Tom Daxon (Bowers) is predestined to be involved in the perfume scene, as his mother managed Molton Brown and he, as her companion, met the right people at the right time who opened doors for the 27-year-old talent and supported him. Jacques Chabert, who is also responsible for Resin Sacra, earned his stripes at Guerlain and Chanel; if that’s not a guarantee of quality, then I don’t know what is.
So why does Resin Sacra fare so poorly on Parfumo?
I have only one explanation for this: it hasn’t reached the "right" audience yet, or it is being misunderstood.
As an opponent of oud, a non-wearer of chypre, a bypasser of resin, and a rejecter of floral scents, I wanted to dive right into this relatively unknown brand with my first fragrance:
Resin or die!
And I was pleasantly surprised!
While I was still enjoying the fresh-cool top note with spicy undertones, the namesake made its appearance:
A smoky resin note, minimally smoked, very aged-woody, and above all, reminiscent of the Far East.
Wonderful!
In my mind's eye, entire millennia-old temples and relics of past cultures emerge. Golden altars, figurines, and carvings come to mind.
A fragrance that not only evokes associations but has uniquely captured the magic of ancient worlds.
A must for fans of Cœur de Vétiver Sacré, Dzongkha, and even Santal Royal!
