Starts Off Strong Before The Game Is Up...
Les Jeux sont Faits opens with a very green and slightly peppery angelica before cumin from its heart starts so peek through early. As the fragrance enters its early heart phase the angelica remains but now in subdued form, as the cumin spice takes on the starring role in a big way supported by an almost cognac-laced leathery accord. As the fragrance enters the late dry-down the earlier notes and accords all but disappear, as the fragrance turns soft and powdery, primarily driven by powdery vanilla, relatively sweet sandalwood and patchouli from the base. Projection is average and longevity is on the low side of average at 6-8 hours on skin.

Les Jeux sont Faits is my first introduction to the house of Jovoy, and things are off to a pretty good start. It opens a bit like Angeliques Sous La Pluie with its angelica focus, but it quickly morphs into its primary cumin driven leather accord in the heart notes, reminding me more than a bit of Puredistance M. Finally, as it dries down the fragrance changes once more, now into a powdery slightly sweet mix that somehow seems a bit detached from the rest of the composition before it disappears just a bit too quickly. The first and second stages are by far the best parts of Les Jeux sont Faits to my taste, as they channel two excellent fragrances already in my collection (though neither executed as well as the originals); and then the game is up as in the late dry-down the composition loses its way and tries to be something else. I can certainly say that on the whole the composition is a success, but whether this very good 3.5 star out of 5 rated effort merits purchase at its relatively lofty $180 per bottle price tag is another story. I would stick to the fragrances it tries and largely succeeds at emulating personally.

A Jovoy I really like
Les Jeux sont Faits is the second Jovoy I've tried. The first, Private Label, I tried last year and I rated it pretty low due to it's sugary, smoky BBQ sauce scent. Les Jeux, OTOH, is really nice. It opens with more of a bite from the angelica with some sweetness from the dried fruits note. Soon after, a beautiful woody-resiny-boozy blend appears, including the patchouli, tobacco, labdanum and rum with a touch of cumin to give it a slightly dirty edge. I mean, this is really good stuff. Not so obvious in the air, but close to the skin, the bite of the angelica is initially still there but it slowly fades.

Longevity is excellent. I got almost 12 hours out of it. Projection is at the top end of moderate. More of an evening fragrance and very masculine. Could work on a summer night in AC. Jovoy has a real winner here.

A lovely angelica followed by medicinal tobacco, patchouli and woody notes
Les Jeux sont Faits appears very divisive in the reviews I have read, as each of them highlight and emphasize different notes from this perfume and thus suggest very different personalities. The opinions about this perfume range from boozy tobacco to powdery vanilla to woody patchouli. These attributes exist, but Les Jeux sont Faits is much more than that. The nose behind Les Jeux sont Faits is Dorothée Piot, who also created Memoir Woman for Amouage. This review was originally written for a sample atomizer from Jovoy Paris. It has been updated after my recent purchase of a full bottle.

Jovoy website lists angelica, gin, dried fruits, rum, tobacco, cumin, cistus, labdanum, sandalwood, patchouli and vanilla as the component notes. Les Jeux sont Faits means ‘the chips are down’ from a gambling perspective. I assume that the perfumer is trying to evoke an ancient high-end tavern that lubricates the games with herbaceous liqueurs. The opening is an intense angelica along with lovely notes from gin and dried fruits. This angelica has a unique green pepper nuance, not usually seen in other perfumes with angelica. The rum and tobacco that comes soon after in the heart notes are elegant and sophisticated, but not very strong or pungent. The angelica disappears completely when we reach the middle notes. Few folks would pick out the cumin in Les Jeux sont Faits, and I certainly do not. The base notes are a gentle blend of amber, sandalwood and patchouli. The amber note comes from cistus, labdanum and vanilla according to the notes listed by the perfumer. As cistus and labdanum are listed separately, I assume that the cistus note comes from the absolute extracted from the leaves of cistus ladaniferus. This is mostly academic as the amber accord is too mild to separate out among the base notes.

I get very good performance from Les Jeux sont Faits on my skin. It lasts about eight hours with very good sillage. It is a mature elegant perfume that will work well in an office setting, more so after the initial burst of angelica.

For my nose and brain, Les Jeux sont Faits is an herbaceous medicinal perfume than a boozy party animal. It resembles perfumes like Laudano Nero, but with a green angelica twist. I was skeptical initially because of the green note in the beginning that resembles green pepper (capsicum). But I am now convinced enough of its beauty to recommend it. Like most Jovoy perfumes, it is available in the 15 ml size if you are on the fence.

Drunk Angelica
The name can be translated to “The bets are made”, or “The chips are down”, smth of this sort. The fragrance should be inspired by the Jean Paul Sartre book carrying the same name in French. I recommend reading it as the plot is quite interesting and the works of Sartre are an “easy read” (compared to some other philosophers) if you want to learn more about the philosophy of existentialism. I will not go any further explaining the plot to avoid spoilers for those who will decide to read the book.

The fragrance itself is a praise to angelica, a note I’ve discovered thanks to this perfume, I absolutely love it! You can get a good understanding of the note if you’ve ever tried Angeliques sous la pluie or French lover (though the note there might be overshadowed by other ingredients, haven’t sampled that one in a while) by Frederic Malle.

Here, angelica is definitely drunk after having some Gin Tonic and other alcoholic drinks (potentially vermouth) and smoked a cigar. The composition revolves around Angelica, but you can get other notes like tobacco (unsweetened), sandalwood (pickled gin tonic) and some labdanum, but they’re all well-blended and serve as a support to angelica.

Very well-crafted creation, but not recommended for a blind-buy as angelica is rather hit or miss note. Amazing perfume for different occasions. I love to wear it with a suit/smart casual look in bars and restaurants, especially in the evening. Be careful with white clothes, the perfume tends to stain them.

Rum, wood, tobacco.
An alcoholic blast, in the opening, that inebriated me, a woody background that opens and wets the nostrils and it smells somewhat dense, almost sticky. It's the smell you can find in one of those pubs when people drink until they pass out or find themselves singing together with perfect strangers, while glasses and beer mugs
potrebbe trovare in uno di quei pub dove si beve fino a ritrovarsi a cantare assieme, mentre bicchieri e mugs inevitably end up spilling onto wooden planks which have recently been given the finish.

Les Jeux Sont Fait is always there, on the edge that separates audacity from exaggeration.
Insomma Le Jeux Sont Fait it is a seductive provocation, intensely masculine (but I would love it on a woman), amiably bold, an emblem of self-confidence. It should be worn in those days, rare or frequent, in which we feel invincible.

A hint of booze, a pinch of spices, dry wood, patchouli, and that school cafeteria soup nobody likes.

Dark, mysterious and unapologetic. This is a thick, loud and alpha like smell for a confident man. Reminds me of SL Ambre S but much nicer.

For the first two hours, it feels too disharmonious to me, but rum and tobacco really shine afterwards. The fruits weren't necessary.
