Why Tom, why?

Yes, it's a Tom Ford fragrance that has prompted me to write another review. And not just any one, no, the most talked about one at that.
The reason for this is simple from my perspective. It could have been the best vanilla fragrance of all time, but...
These first 2 seconds in which the fragrance escapes the bottle, this spearhead, this first delicate touch with the fragrance, that is the perfect vanilla. For me at least. But immediately afterwards, right from the top note, an indefinable, strangely pungent and yet bluntly perceived chemical component develops, which seems to tear this cautious escape of the delicate, lovely vanilla, which unites all the chords, into a deep abyss. A hand reaches for the daylight, but the chemical demon has no mercy. This is followed by an affected silence. On my skin, I can now only perceive the vanilla very very faintly, it is still a memory, covered by liquid Tupperware, I can't describe it any better. In the room, however.... when you leave the room, air it out and enter it again later, the memory of the gentle, pleasant, sweet sounds of a freshly cut vanilla pod that has just finished fermenting prevails. If it had been that alone, it would certainly have been a favorite for me, even without a big spectacle around it.
Unfortunately, to my nose at least, it doesn't develop much after that. It becomes sweeter, the bitter almond comes into play, the Christmas baking theme... yes, I can understand that some people might get it. A gourmand with no highs or lows, apart from the disappointment that has already hit me. The chemical blanket remains until the end, even if it recedes into the background. I still like the base, the final chord, the best. Reconciliatory warm, not too sweet, but not spectacular, the fresh vanilla has disappeared. Nothing for which I would touch the sums demanded by Tom Ford.
I have no idea where sex, of any kind, should come into play here, the only associations I can make with it have to do with cleaning agents and plastic wrap in clearly overheated rooms. Nothing, absolutely nothing about it would be sexy. But maybe that's exactly how it should be interpreted. Who knows.
