A warm weather fragrance
Today I'm wearing Terracotta Le Parfum from a sample I received from a friend. I hate to be the one to rain on the parade, but it's not love for me. It is nice, but there is just too much jasmine in here for me. Maybe my nose or my skin enhances the jasmine, but it's not a favorite note. All I can smell is a huge indolic jasmine, unfortunately no other notes. I think jasmine lovers should be smitten by it.

I do love the drydown though, which is less jasmine, somewhat sweeter and muskier.

Before I received the sample I already blindbought the bottle, because Terracotta le Parfum is so hard to find and there were only a few left (which I found after a long search on the web). They are actually selling like hot buns. It's still on its way to me and I'm already thinking about selling it :)

Update 7th of June: it's 32 degrees over here and I get a totally different experience. It's much sweeter now with much more facets. I definitely get more flowers now, I can smell the tiare, orange blossom and ylang ylang. I think this is perfect in warm weather. Changing my rating from 70 to a staggering 90!!! And now I'm happy with my bottle (which just arrived).

An ode to Tiare and Orange blossom...
Here is another beautiful Guerlain limited edition scent in their Terracotta line-up. Definitely an ode to Tiare and orange blossoms - it's quite beautiful, and smells very tropical. The coconut doesn't make a big appearance on my skin and I do detect a bit of vanilla but it's not dominant. This is lovely. I'm sure this is what the ultra wealthy ladies smell like when at the French Riviera. Or at least I imagine they do! There isn't a suntan lotion vibe here really and yet I can completely see how this scent could be used in a high end after sun lotion as well. This was a blind buy for me based on how much I love Voile d' Ete - where VdE is about the spiciness of the carnation, Terracotta Le Parfum is about the tropics. Thank you Guerlain and Thierry Wasser for making my spring and summer just that much better!

tropical holiday
I'm a fan of tropical flowers done right and Thierry Wasser has done it well. It opens nice and bright with the bergamot but straight away I smell tropical flowers true to their natural scent (I pick out jasmine and fragipani which grow everywhere here). There's a creamy coconut in the background, less creamy than in CSP's Vanille Coco but more creamy than Sensuous Nude. It doesn't have a big sillage, it's more discreet but not difficult to smell it through the hot days we are having here. The vanilla is not overwhelming here, it just adds a little sweetness to the mixture and I don't get any musk actually. So this is great if you like tropical flowers and vibes without the sunscreen lotion effect. After comparing it to Annick Goutal's Songes EDT and L'Erbolario's Tiare, I would say this wins over Tiare which has a artificial saccharine note in comparison. I prefer this to Songes EDT which was a lovely concoction of white flowers but did not last long on my skin. Price point for me, Terracotta wins over Songes. So all in all, I'm very pleased.

Ecstasy on a Midsummer Night
Thanks to my dear thoughtful Valandria who’d sent me two generous vials of this precious juice, I am enjoying my second wearing of it so much so that I am inspired to write an ode to it too. As I was saying to Valandria though, how DO you verbally capture what you smell especially when it is elusive, exotic, and utterly moving? As I’m not as talented as most perfumistas on this site in describing a scent, please bear with me as I stumble and fall through my clumsy attempt.

Despite its name, Terracotta resembles nothing of “baked earth” to me. This beautiful fragrance opens with sweet, juicy Coconut and Tiare on my skin. This is a brief experience that lasts only a quarter of an hour before the most stunning Jasmine I have ever smelled hits my skin like a magical spell that knocks me out of my senses. In the heart phase, the Coconut and Tiare are wrestled into submission by this flower and bow out to be replaced by the Orange Blossom note that happily assumes a supporting role. For the next eight blissful hours I am transported to a Caribbean island where the night air is perfumed with the Orange Blossoms, where I dip into my secluded pool of night-blooming Jasmines and lose myself in this fairy liquid. Half a day passes by before the sensual encounter, though no less meaningful, begins to lessen in intensity and paves the way to a creamy, musky closure as it rests on my loving arms. This sultry perfume is no secret to anyone. Outstanding sillage and projection stayed with me all throughout its lifespan, only to be terminated by a thoroughly soapy shower.

I have had my share of Jasmine favorites such as Creed Jasmin Impératrice Eugénie and Montale Jasmin Full. But from this moment on nothing can even come close to the beauty of Terracotta. Guerlain described this scent as “The allure of the sun in a bottle”. I think I’d rather summarize it as “Ecstasy on a midsummer night”, for, to me, the erotic aroma of this juice recounts some epic tale of the lovers in the darkness, who ardently worship each other with an unrivalled volcanic passion that lasts a lifetime.

Thank you, Thierry Wasser, for creating this rapture in a bottle and, thank you, lovely Valandria, for introducing it to me.

A lovely and refined tropical blend
I really like this. It is sort of what I expected, but then not. What do I mean by that, you ask?! Well, I expected the scents I am smelling, but I did not expect them to smell so refined and elegant. I did get some tangy bergamot at the very top, but it only lasted for a couple of minutes. It's primarily tiare with the coconut holding it back from becoming too heady--and headache-inducing! In turn, the tiare helps the coconut avoid veering into suntan lotion territory. Vanilla and musk round out the base without reducing the lovely synergy of the tiare-coconut combo. Yes, I am very pleased with this perfume. I just wish I could smell it on me for longer than an hour or two. The longevity is definitely a problem, and for this price, it should perform better.
Thank you to Exciter76 who graciously sent me a decant! What a gal!

WOW! This smells tropical, lush, and expensive. My only complaint: I wish it lasted longer, as I only get an hour or two out of it.

Ylang-ylang overdose. If you like it veeeery sweet-floral, you'll find a favourite here. For me, it's too heavy and overpowering.

A very simple perfume that smells like sunscreen, nothing more, nothing less. Bad staying power and sillage, in short not great.

I don't get coconut from this, just strong white florals (which I like). It's a bit creamy and blends well with my skin. Maybe not FB worthy though.

Clean and bright, creamy yet dry scent. It's one of the "my skin but better" kind with a hint of coconut. Really comforting.

Heavy but pleasant floral scent upon first spraying… Dry down is exquisitely vanilla-coconut. Warm, creamy, and luxurious.
