Old school class

*Not to be confused with the 2004 version to which this bares no resemblance*

After a brief burst of alcohol, Weil Pour Homme settles comfortably into a melange of citrus, lavender, and basil. The dry-down has loads of oakmoss, some cedar, and leather. It has a big soapy vibe at the end, like a bar of quality old school soap... Taylor Of London For Gentlemen comes to mind. It's all inoffensive and office-friendly, in the old school way Guerlain Vetiver is, if that makes sense.

Projection is low and longevity is decent. It's getting very hard to find these days, but well worth a look.

Masculinity Level: Batman wouldn't wear this, but Alfred would.

Good Old Times

"Weil pour Homme" is another child of that time when men were still allowed to be men and could underline this with a fitting perfume. Even after more than 30 years, one is still fascinated by the rugged, masculine beauty of this product.

The creation of "Weil pour Homme" is fundamentally quite simple:

One takes as a base Fabergé's classic "Brut" and adds a strong dash of "Azzaro pour Homme," and voila - a true classic is ready!
So simple can the life of a perfumer sometimes be...

The fact that Weil ultimately did not achieve success can - considering the success of similarly styled perfumes - only be attributed to unfortunate marketing. The scent itself is absolutely wonderful, even if it is a bit out of time. The sillage and longevity are certainly impressive.

Anyone who appreciates solid vintage scents and finds a good deal, perhaps even as a mini, should seize the opportunity; they will surely enjoy it.

Wumms.. uh...Weil Pour Homme

Weil Pour Homme in its original formulation was a strong, floral-spicy and warm-woody men's fragrance... yes, it was meant to be reserved for men.... :-)

At the time, it was advertised with a mustachioed sideburn-wearer in the style of Burt Reynolds. There was also an advertising campaign where WPH was promoted together with Chunga for women.

I still remember very well my first bottle of Weil Pour Homme, even though I only got it in the early 90s (it was no longer being produced at that time and was sold off at half price). Richly floral, spicy, and powdery warm, this EDT unfolded from the dark green bottle with the burgundy cap; it was very elegant, not quite as loud as its contemporaries, but still with "Wumms".

Weil for Men was not a particularly big commercial success at the time; the Weil company struggled to compete against rivals like KOUROS by YSL or JULES by Dior, but that is exactly where WPH belongs, among the "heavyweights" that were omnipresent in the early 80s. It's a shame that the reformulation did not capture the old formula from 1980.
