Absolutely fruit candy
First of all: I like fresh fragrances. Especially fresh aquatic scents. The sultry, heavy, sweet vanilla fragrances are not really my thing. So when I read the fragrance notes and the reviews so far, I thought I'd order my first Zara. The Zara Absolutely Dark. Whereby the name is completely misleading here, actually suggesting the exact opposite of this fragrance. However, this fragrance is light, very fresh, very citrusy and later aquatic. You could also call it a so-called "shower gel fragrance", which I don't mean in a negative way at all. Sometimes I just like to smell like shower gel.
When you spray it on, you are hit (not hit) by a fresh lemon-tangerine mix, which somehow comes across as quite synthetic to my nose and a little sharp, especially at the beginning. However, I have nothing against synthetics in fragrances. I like the mandarin in Chrome Extrême (which I have) much better. And in contrast to a Hugo Reversed (which I also have), this citrus mix is not quite as harmonious, not as "smooth". I therefore find the opening of Absolutely Dark rather mediocre.
This changes when the tangerine fades after 30-45 minutes and the fragrance as a whole changes somewhat. Everything becomes softer and more pleasant to my nose. This is because the citrus notes slowly recede and the spiciness comes more to the fore. I can also perceive the rose better. The fragrance then moves more in the direction of an aquatic scent, i.e. it changes from a citrus scent to a spicy-aquatic scent, but always remains fresh and refreshing. Always accompanied by a hint of rose. However, I was surprised by the later course. I sprayed the fragrance on a piece of paper yesterday and left it in the office overnight. This morning, the office smelled of spicy rosewood, but in a very pleasant way. I'm still not sure whether the rose isn't a little too feminine for me. Can certainly also be sprayed on by the ladies without any problems.
Is this fragrance a blind buy candidate? I think not. Is this fragrance a must-have? Also no. But it's certainly a great value for money if you like the scent. And also definitely a "I don't know what to spray on today. Oh come on, I'll just use the Zara." Fragrance. In other words, a so-called no-brainer when you need to get things done quickly.
In conclusion, I would like to say that the fragrance is rated a little too highly in my opinion. Even though it is not badly made, it lacks something special for me. Apart from in high temperatures, I can hardly see any possible uses for it. And I think I'm more likely to reach for others in my modest collection.
