Confusing performance. Super strong... then, nothing.
- Pungent boozy patchouli slaps you in the face.

- 5 mins in - it calmed down so I no longer want to scrub it off. Turned woody.

- 15 mins in - I start to enjoy it quite a lot. It's like a wood barrel that stored spicy honey rum in it for years, but is now dry. Unfortunately I can't smell it unless I shove my nose in it.

First nothing - then significant
After a long absence from fragrances, I had to check in at my regular perfumery today.
Additionally, I wanted to pay for a Loewe that had already traveled unpaid to my girlfriend.

I call that trust and exemplary business conduct.
Even the trip to the post office was taken care of for me.
You really enjoy shopping like that.
And I was in the mood to buy.

Hmm - offers!

Boadicea's. Good scents - but I don't like the martial metal flacons.
They are quite heavy to hold.

Then there's Zero Mole Cole - the name doesn't appeal to me.
It somehow sounds like chemistry class.

However, the subtitle Torino piques my curiosity.
I spray and smell - uh... not much.
An overly cerebral experimental scent?
My sales associate whispers to me: Wait and see.

We quickly find common ground in our favorite topics - horses and dogs - when a warm, soft aroma gently but noticeably reaches me from the left.
What did I spray there?
Oh yes - Zero Torino!
That's why I was actually still on site.

Good thing, because from the initial nothing - it became something significant.

The honey paired with the rum smells like delicious mead - dusted with mild cinnamon.
Vanilla sweetly lays over it - and the patchouli forms a golden-brown background.

This is how it smells at my beloved medieval markets, where noble knights on horseback vie for the affection of their ladies.

My gallant companion carried me over the earthy terrain, as I couldn't quite get anywhere in my stiletto heels.
He even claimed that I weighed no more than a cat.
That was like a love song in my ears!

It's a pity I wasn't wearing a golden-brown velvet gown, but rather a plain pair of jeans.

Yet Torino perfectly dresses me in thought, and I am Bettina the castle maiden - and my strong knight transforms into Junker Jörg.

Pure romance.

The black Friesian stallion Abraxas paws the ground - ready to fly with us over Marienburg.

The better "Straight to Heaven"
Just like the previously tested "Straight to Heaven," this one also starts with a lot of rum and patchouli. However, the rum here feels more refined, like a high-quality drop and not some second-rate swill for Caribbean pirates. I also prefer the patchouli here; it is not dry and scratchy, but rather soft, earthy, and slightly chocolatey. The rum and patchouli together create a warm, sensual blend, without any one part overshadowing the other. The dry down is distinctly woody, just like in "Straight to Heaven," but here it is sandalwood that defines the lingering note. I really like all of this!

If you find the price-performance ratio of the by Kilian fragrance too skewed and the patchouli there too dry and scratchy, I recommend his gentler, more sensual brother. In terms of longevity, both play in the same league; however, "Geco" is more expansive and offers greater projection. If I had to choose between the two fragrances, I would opt for this one. I am offered a fantastic rum-patchouli mix here!

The Drunken Gecko Burps
Somewhere in a suburb near a tropical forest in Peru. The sun is too exhausted to hold itself up in the sky any longer and is slowly sinking lower, creating an ever-growing darkness, if the sparse lighting of a small dive bar in this place didn’t break through the darkness a little.

A place where the simple workers quickly indulge in a few drinks after work. Miguel, who proudly claims that his ancestors were real Incas and supposedly participated in the construction of Machu Picchu, also enjoys a drink after work. And as usual, he is one of the first to enter the bar. The bartender is a good friend, so he gives him a bottle of good rum first before distributing the rest to the other guests. And as often happens, Miguel takes this good rum outside, behind the bar, so he can hide the drink among some crates until his buddy shows up, with whom he will then share the good drink. Because it is pitch dark behind the bar, no one can see that there is a bottle there. No one, except for our little friend here, the gecko, whose retinas are about 350 times more light-sensitive than those of a human, so he can see EVERYTHING Miguel is doing back there from the edge of the forest.

And after Miguel disappears back into the bar to wait for his buddy, our little gecko can no longer resist his curiosity and makes his way to investigate what has been placed among the crates.

The Scent:
At first, you can smell both strong, earthy patchouli and enticingly delicious rum with a slightly sweet background (which could possibly come from honey). Although the scent starts off very strong, it also has a softer side after a few minutes. The vanilla makes the scent a bit gentler, and combined with the aforementioned honey, the sweet notes almost smell a little chocolatey, while the earthy patchouli notes and the rum still stand out prominently.
A little later, the scent remains as described, but now it also acquires woody notes, although I’m not sure if these are really sandalwood notes, as the scent seems a bit stronger than the usually softer sandalwood (but it’s not cedar either, as it doesn’t have the distinctive cedar scent). Nevertheless, the woody notes fit well with the remaining alcoholic and earthy scent with the light sweet notes, although these no longer remind one of chocolate in the base.

The Sillage and Longevity:
The sillage is strong and therefore radiates well for a while, so it should be easily perceived by others. I also think that a nice little scent cloud remains… or alcohol breath?? :D
The longevity is pleasantly long, allowing one to enjoy the lovely scent for more than ten hours.

The Bottle:
The bottle is rectangular and filled with a slightly yellowish liquid. On the front, there is a white label with the name and brand of the fragrance in a modern yet simple font. In some photos, it can also be seen that the label can be reflective. The cap is cylindrical and appears to be made of wood. It looks quite nice to me.

Rum. Strong, but slightly sweet rum smells everywhere after the gecko has knocked over the bottle. The alcoholic liquid has long since spread across the earthy ground and now also smells a bit earthy. Nevertheless, the strong rum scent is detectable everywhere in the air, but no one will notice it, as it doesn’t smell any different in the bar. Our gecko has long since started to lick up the remnants of the rum. Just a few minutes later, the little creature is so drunk that it simply stays lying there until Miguel finally shows up with his buddy. He sees the broken bottle, searches for the culprit with his little flashlight, and finally spots the gecko lying on its back, holding its belly and staring at him. “Did you break the bottle and drink the rum?” Miguel asks, raising an eyebrow at the little creature. But all he gets in response is a burp, which probably answers his question, while Miguel's buddy can’t hold back his laughter…

Yes, Gecko, whose scent name reminded me of geckos, is a nicely crafted fragrance that smells alcoholic and is probably less suitable for work but more for going out. It is strong and fairly long-lasting, and in my opinion, it works well in autumn, winter, but also in spring.

It’s worth a try, or rather, it should be tried if the opportunity arises!

On a quest for booze
I am still on the hunt for the ideal rum scent...

Geco is quite decent but not what I'm looking for. The dealbreaker is the longevity. After 3-4 hours, it’s game over, and at this price point, that’s not enough, unfortunately.

It starts with a sharp alcohol note, which thankfully doesn’t smell like cheap hooch. Then a punch in the face - someone just took a whiff from the nutmeg jar - wow, I see stars.

After a few minutes, it becomes fruitier. I first smell coconut. This very vaguely reminds me of a woody/nutmeg Malibu. My wife perceives more of a plum note. I smell that too, but a bit later. More like a spiced plum schnapps, then back to coconut again.

In between, there are spices. First, nutmeg/cedarwood is dominant. In the base, delicious vanilla comes in. This is where the scent gets really good, with a slight sweetness, a bit spicy, and very subtle rum. Well balanced in the base. It would be really great if I didn’t have to do a forward roll to land my nose on my chest.

There’s hardly any sillage left, and I have to actively sniff to enjoy this wonderful composition. Argh! Nevertheless, in terms of mood, you sit with a glass by the wood stove and enjoy the view of the winter landscape from the warmth.

Even on clothing, the scent doesn’t last much longer. A quick shower and then the last scent relic was history. :(

Good, but with performance flaws & the price asked is not entirely justifiable. The rum is initially too nutmeg-heavy for me, but pleasantly soft in the base.

Very close to "Straight to Heaven" during the boozy opening but the excessive patchouli in the drydown makes it not as smooth as Kilian's.

The gecko settles into its earthy, peaty burrow; with plenty of rum + spiced honey. Tipsy, it heads into the warm + soft sandalwood bed.

I didn't know that geckos smell like rum pot with sandalwood. I actually like it even in summer.

Liquid amber, smooth, warm, grounding. Honeyed autumn evening sweetener. In my opinion, a gourmand, not really my style.

This gecko loves earthy patch, rum baths & chill phases on sandalwood, treated with honey & cinnamon-vanilla. Such a quirky guy.
