Short Love
"It is better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all." This admittedly somewhat theatrical quote came to my mind because I have experienced something similar with this beautiful fragrance.

It starts with a slightly green fig note, accompanied by a fruity citrus that is truly beautiful. The iris joins in very delicately, giving the fig a gentle support without becoming powdery or soapy, and continues to leave the main role to the fig. I can't help it, I am in love with this natural, gentle fig that is so weightless, conjuring images of vacation and summer, and I can never get enough of it. I have found it, MY fig fragrance. But then, unfortunately, the early end comes. After 15 minutes, I can only smell sandalwood on my skin, a beautiful, creamy sandalwood mind you, but no fig anymore and none of the other notes. It's over and done. It must be due to my skin chemistry or my scent synapses, because no cream or layering has been able to prevent this premature ending so far. The sandalwood is surprisingly long-lasting, I can perceive it on me for about eight hours. On fabric, I can smell the fig longer, but there the fragrance unfortunately does not unfold as beautifully as on the skin.
I still recommend all fig lovers to test this truly beautiful fragrance, and maybe you will be lucky and the fig will last longer for you. Many thanks again to the lovely Parfuma, who sent me the sample.

By the way, the quote comes from the poet Samuel Butler, who also tended sheep for a time. He must have had a lot of time to think, and he is certainly right.

Resistance is futile
The fragrance is the discovery of late summer 2022. For me, it’s worth reviewing a scent with a pronounced fig note that doesn’t smell like coconut. This also applies to another fig fragrance that I am testing in parallel. It is Gris Charnel Eau de Parfum.
The "Fig" starts very fresh with grapefruit and fig notes. It is dry and only slightly sweet. The iris makes it powdery, not creamy to my nose. Iris and green fig shake hands and don’t hold back. In the base, there is a delicious sandalwood note. It lasts a long time, more skin-close. I was extremely unhappy when the Infusion d`Iris EdT was taken off the market. In this fragrance, the DNA + fig comes back to life. I wouldn’t assign this scent only to summer or warm seasons. It’s worth mentioning the ecologically impeccable packaging and the individual message from the brand regarding shipping.
Now for the comparison to Gris Charnel: This is a cozy, rounded fragrance with a creaminess that is unmatched. Sweeter than the Fig at the start, soft and aromatic through cardamom and fig. The black tea note makes it special, carrying through to the woody base.
Two very distinctive fig fragrances with few parallels, except that both have made fig appealing and wearable for me.

A Visit to Arquinesia in Palma de Mallorca
During my last visit to Palma, I practically stumbled upon Arquinesia. I had already heard of Fig as a fragrance, and since I can rarely resist a fig-sandalwood combination, my curiosity was piqued. I had also heard that Arquinesia is based in Palma. And as I strolled through the streets of Palma, I suddenly found myself in front of the entrance door, which appears so unassumingly simple and is marked only by a metal sign. Upon entering the shop, one initially feels as if they are in a museum. You are guided through several small rooms, adorned with beautiful stone floors and old display cases showcasing the products, until you finally reach the sales area.
Arquinesia produces only 6 fragrances, along with various products such as soaps, scented candles, hand lotions, etc. Of course, I tried all 6, and I also liked "Scent of History | Arquinesia," a lovely frankincense-oud combination that, according to the saleswoman, is also supposed to work as a mosquito repellent.
However, I found the Fig to be the most beautiful without a doubt. It starts off fresh with a citrus-fruity note, making it initially stand out as a summer fragrance. The fig quickly comes to the forefront and develops a noticeable sweetness over time. As a result, the scent doesn't strike me as entirely unisex, but rather tends to be feminine. The woody notes of the base join in quite soon, with the sandalwood taking the lead, which makes the fragrance experience very soft and creamy. Unfortunately, unfortunately, the scent only lasts a few hours on my skin and doesn't project very well. A very private and short-lived affair, this fragrance.
I imagine wearing it in the summer evenings when I come home from work and want to enjoy a relaxed evening on the balcony after a quick shower or a dip in the lake. I forgive the fragrance for not lasting long; according to the brochure, it is made only from natural substances and is cruelty-free. 95 euros for 100 ml is still bearable despite its rather cologne-like quality.
A visit to Arquinesia is definitely worth it; the shop is a treasure in itself. The soaps start at 9 euros, making them a lovely gift to bring back.

Fig on Fig
First of all: I love figs. In all forms, colors, and uses, from the Mediterranean-looking tree, to the juicy, spicy-scented leaves, to the fruits in all their ripeness stages. The juicy sweetness reminds me of my childhood, while the scent of the whole plant, like when watering on hot evenings, evokes an unparalleled summer feeling.

It's hardly surprising that with my growing love for wonderful fragrances, the search for the Holy Grail soon followed. For a fig scent that captures this plant in its entirety, natural and not overly masculine, without the addition of too many other fragrance notes. Layering could be done by oneself if needed. One that doesn’t drown in milk or wade through greenery, isn’t a sugary sticky sweet, and isn’t an entire fruit basket.

What can I say? By a happy coincidence and a lovely perfume, I came across this masterpiece that combines all my desired characteristics in one scent. Without hours of waiting for the drydown, without having to dip into my retirement savings just to afford it.

The Holy Grail? For that, the longevity could be a bit better. But: Fig comes very close. Damn close. Presumably, better longevity would come at the cost of the fragrance's naturalness. Therefore: Perfectly done! Thank you, Arquinisia!

Authentic Green Fig Scent
Authentic fig scent that comes across as very green and has a pleasant bitterness.

A really beautiful unisex fragrance, but I feel it lacks that certain something.

Unfortunately, there are no other players in the background, and the fig is the main actor.

In the drydown, one can sense a very subtle, barely noticeable sweetness, and it becomes peppery.

A successful fragrance, if it weren't for the incredibly poor longevity and sillage.

In this price range, I find that unacceptable.

I used about 12 sprays (!!!!) and had a longevity of about 3 hours.

The projection is minimal at about 2 hours. After that, it's basically gone.

Clearly too little performance for me.

The search for the perfect fig scent continues.

Figtor, do you have the fig soap?
Or the foot spray?
Just the bottle then?
Oh, okay.
Smells like both mixed together.
Even quite strong, unfortunately.

Yes, I love fig scents when they are as lightly fruity and wonderfully creamy as this one.

Woody, herbal, and truly green,
this tree doesn't seem to bloom yet. But a creamy scent already lingers in the air, a wonderful fig aroma.

Magical! A delightful little potion of green fig juice mixed with the creamiest sandalwood. Finesse, love, satisfaction. Wonderful.

The life cycle of a fig,
from green-leafy to creamy-milky,
to subtly tanned licorice,
with delicately woven iris.
Noble.

More fruit than green, no apple, achieves the balance of not being too sweet/coconut-like. Creamy, almost soapy in the progression (I like it)
