Nutty rice and rhubarb popcorn
Art Brüt - a small manufactory that probably comes from Hamburg, but now - according to the imprint - has its headquarters in Berlin. The creative "team of fragrance experts" also seems to have changed its line-up somewhat. So much for the result of a not very detailed and therefore not very reliable search.

I stumbled across it by chance and admittedly, it was the name "German Angst" that immediately grabbed me at the time (March 2025). The names of a handful of fragrance creations are already very attention-grabbing, the stories behind the scents are wonderfully fabulated together, if not necessarily reflective of their scent. First of all: don't be dazzled by the trappings, these are not equally unusual creations. I also wonder whether the perfumes are doing themselves a favor by being so highly rated thanks to the "trappings". The names lead to rather high expectations - which are not fulfilled.

But: After testing the standard Discovery Set with four different samples, these are very solid creations. It's worth trying them out. Especially as the Discovery Set is really cheap compared to other brands, and if you decide to buy a bottle, you also get a code that gives you a discount. So you really don't lose anything here.

So, now to "Chasing Ghosts" in particular: With hemp and marijuana in the ingredients list, of course only a "home office test" went first. I don't want to smell like a "doobie" in the office - many people have had one or two experiences with it. So they recognize the smell immediately. Me, erm, yes, definitely too. But an office test would be no problem. I claim I would recognize marijuana immediately, but I don't here.

I get a very pronounced hazelnut note, which is very quickly complemented by warm, very soft-boiled, steaming white rice. Really gourmand in this respect - for me, this is the most natural rice gourmand to date. Accordingly, "Chasing Ghosts" is very soft, gentle and yes, warm. After about two hours, I keep getting a very light but clearly recognizable grapefuit-like rhubarb kick. Only for a few seconds at a time, then the delicately sweet rice-nut note prevails again, which later takes on a popcorn-like quality. Over time, the fragrance becomes more and more musky, more woody overall, very dense, but also gentle. I don't usually get other of the listed notes in my nose in this way.
I find the interplay of soft, warm, white and popcorn rice with the light, flashing kicks of freshness exciting, pleasant and not overpowering for the environment. You can wear "Chasing Ghosts" anywhere. You definitely don't smell like a stoner. For gourmand lovers who don't like it too sweet (but it is slightly sweet), who want a cozy aura based on nutty rice, I can only say: try it.

"Chasing Ghosts" can easily hold its own in the current market. Especially since, even if Ambroxan is listed, I would say that the typical pungent woody disturbing note is completely absent here. I find that very positive.

The longevity and sillage - well, the longevity is average, I would roughly estimate about 5/6 hours. The sillage is medium - you notice it, but since it has no real edges, it is discreetly noticeable. It doesn't tickle, it snuggles in.

I'm not sure yet whether it will be enough to buy a bottle. But I really like it. At the moment, I think the idea of having something "rare" or beautifully "niche" plays a part. Is that enough, already good and very niche?

Speaking of which: I actually think it's only a matter of time before Art Brüt gets more attention as a brand. After all, "German Angst zwei" and "Weltschmerz" are also likely to be well received and thus find many more fans, making the brand better known. For me, the weakest in the four-song set is "Disko Disko" - but as always, it's a matter of taste.
