But not BR540?!
As a Lakers fan, I immediately ordered a sample when I heard about this fragrance.

As soon as the sample arrived, I sprayed it on and bam, saffron, Baccarat Rouge, burnt cotton candy, no thanks. Too bad, it's not for me.

However, I wanted to give the fragrance more chances since the website also advertised a certain lightness, freshness, and woodiness.

After several days of wearing it, I can say, yes, that's true. If you give the fragrance a chance and don't let the saffron explosion upon spraying deter you, you discover more than just another BR540 knockoff.

In my eyes, this fragrance is lighter and more relaxed than BR540. It doesn't just have that all-pervasive sweetness, but also a certain freshness and a woody-warm base. Accordingly, I would attribute a certain uniqueness to it.

I absolutely cannot relate to Baccarat Rouge, Cloud, Spirito Fiorentino, but this fragrance has convinced me that I at least don't have a general aversion to saffron. And I can even appreciate saffron when the sweetness is somewhat tempered.

Celebrity Fragrance?
Another fragrance from a "celebrity"?
I am always very skeptical when it comes to fragrances from stars, starlets, and influencers.
I often feel that they just want to cash in. Fans will buy it, no matter how expensive it is.
And it is expensive, the Dope d'Or from Atelier Drip, the brand of basketball star Dennis Schröder, the German export sensation who is currently doing very well with the LA Lakers.
But now, let's talk about the fragrance. Shortly after the first spray, my skepticism regarding the quality completely vanished. A wonderful scent of good quality unfolds - but wait a minute... It smells a lot like BR540? Sniffed again more closely... Hm, less sweet, a slight woodiness but otherwise quite similar. I would see it as the more masculine version of BR540. The opening is a bit fresher than BR540, which benefits the fragrance greatly. Over time, the saffron becomes more pronounced, underscored by a woody note. In the base, my favorite, vanilla, joins in. All in all, it is significantly rounder than I would have expected from an "influencer" fragrance.
The longevity is very good, and the sillage is also high.

Now we come to the part that I find unpleasant... The price. Surely we are dealing with a great fragrance. But almost 200 bucks for a celebrity fragrance? That brings back the "Gschmäckle" for me...
I think it’s really good; at 100 - 130 euros, I wouldn’t think twice. But 200 euros for merchandise, I guess I'm just not a fan enough for that.

DS17 1. Scent
Atelier Drip is the brand of basketball professional Dennis Schröder, who is currently under contract with the LA Lakers, and with Dope D'Or, his first fragrance has now hit the market.
In the first batch, no samples were available, and I wasn't sure if there would ever be any.

Since I generally don't buy fragrances blind, it wasn't an option for me to just order the scent, especially since I currently don't plan to expand my collection ;)
Primarily, I just wanted to know how the fragrance smells and form my own opinion.
The opinions I've heard so far on YouTube have been overwhelmingly positive.

So, as soon as the samples were released with the second batch, I ordered one right away and waited.
Currently, the fragrance is available for €200 and the 2ml sample for €5.

After about two weeks, the time had come. I must say about the brand name that I don't find it very appealing. It sounds like one of the many clumsy streetwear brands that are currently popping up, doing more or less the same thing.
The name of the perfume "Dope d'Or" (which is supposed to mean something like Golden Dope) is okay, but I'm sure there could have been better alternatives.

I like the bottle, and I can't think of any other fragrance that looks similar, so that's already a plus point =).

The same goes for the sample, which is beautifully packaged in foam with a precise cutout and a nice wrapper made of black cardboard; the sprayer is also good. Other manufacturers could take a cue from this ;)

The scent itself is fundamentally good; it has similarities to Baccarat Rouge but is less sweet, drier, and woodier, with a slight citrus note in the opening and a lovely vanilla in the base. I also detect faint hints of the berry notes from Ishq. H/S are top-notch; whether the fragrance is worth the price is something everyone has to decide for themselves; I'm a bit torn ;)
Although it only resembles Baccarat Rouge and is not a clumsy copy, I feel it lacks a bit of individuality, that little something that makes it stand out from the mass of Baccarat Rouge-like fragrances.

I think a compromise could have been found here that would please both sides, namely the less experienced ones who might be buying such an expensive fragrance for the first time and those who have already smelled quite a bit =)

Signature - maybe?
I have never bought a fragrance without prior (extensive) testing and I actually find it interesting how different dope d'or is. To me, the perfume smells incredibly warm, woody, and after a while, a slightly fresher kick comes through. Without this, the overall composition would be too heavy and masculine for me. The sandalwood and moss accents dominate (at least for me)

Upon the first spray, I was almost overwhelmed by the scent. You definitely have to give it time to unfold and dose it appropriately. Two sprays are definitely enough for me. The sillage of this fragrance is almost shocking (in a positive way). Several of my friends have approached me, and I wonder if you overwhelm strangers in the subway if you spray too often. Whether one prefers close-to-skin or dominant scents is ultimately a matter of taste. I like being perceived by others.

The fragrance is marketed as unisex, which personally encouraged me to buy it. A term that is often thrown around when it comes to perfumes, and in the end, you end up with something like Dior Sauvage in your hands (nothing against Sauvage, but you know what I mean). Is this fragrance really unisex? I would say yes, but it leans slightly towards the masculine side. If the scent had a bit more freshness, it would be perfect for my taste.

A very UNIQUE, absolutely warm, and as cringe as it may sound, sexy fragrance. Perhaps a bit too heavy for summer. I still need to test and especially smell Baccarat Rouge, which has been mentioned here often, to have a comparison.

BR540 tailored for Dennis Schröder
I can easily imagine that Dennis Schröder (NBA star, basketball world champion, and owner of the brand) said to his perfumer:
I really love Baccarat Rouge 540, but somehow it’s missing something.
Wouldn't it be cooler to use that scent as a base - with the same saffron fireworks and heavy cotton candy sweetness, and let's make it a bit fruitier. Add some maritime freshness and bring in this soft vanilla for a sexy touch as well. This way, it also comes across as more masculine, as it's not too sweet and floral.
The perfumer nods and does it! :)

It leans towards Spirito Fiorentino, so BR540 with subtle leather notes. Overall not bad but lacks originality.

A fragrance that can do much more than you'd expect from a "celebrity scent." Strong sillage and a scent that stands out.

1:1 BR540. There's no beating around the bush. Saffron. Cotton candy. Lasts long. Good sillage. But for the price, I'd prefer the original.

You can see the influences of DS17's favorite scents, but it has still developed into a unique fragrance that is truly successful.

The opening after spraying is a true explosion.
The sillage is remarkable.
This is not a clone, it's simply a very good fragrance.

Sweet scent reminiscent of BR Rouge 540. A bit fresher, but the saffron is unmistakable. Sillage is very strong. The bottle is high quality.

The more masculine version of BR, less sweet, less heavy, warm vanilla combined with freshness and light citrus. Top H/S

A perfume that flies under the radar. Baccara DNA is noticeable, but it's more masculine.
Signature potential, but also for special occasions.
