A retreat in a bottle ...
The scent feels to me like staying in an aging motel to retreat from the world. Initially, the friendly, older plump motel owner, who smells of clean white roses, greets you with a warm hug at reception and offers you a freshly baked, warm-smelling lemon cake. Then you retire to your room. There is no cell phone reception or Wi-Fi. Just you, your suitcase full of books and this inviting shabby chic wing chair by the fireplace.
You look out of the window to the outside, where a few bare treetops rise through the thick clouds of salicylic and musky fog, and you have the feeling that you are exactly where you should be in this motel that has fallen out of time.
If I want to get into a darker mood, I listen to the soundtrack from AHS Hotel or watch the whole season again. Until I'm ready to check out again in March.
