Appearances can be deceptive ...
Thanks to my wonderful friend K, I was able to enter the weird world of S. The bottles make me laugh because they seem to be the creation of an adult with the mind of a child fascinated by monsters from outer space and intergalactical battles.

Right, now onto the scent.
What hit my nasal passages first was a clear barbershop vibe.
Now, don’t be put off.
This was a very classy gentlemen’ affair.
A minty-citrusy edge appears almost instantly.
It's invigorating.
Truly.
Not only do you smell it, but you can also feel an obvious cooling sensation where you applied the fragrance.

Very soon afterwards, a comforting smoothness emerges.
It still retains its original nature but strangely enough, transforms itself into a definite unisex fragrance.

I would describe the drydown as a skin scent.
A soft and gentle vanillic musk, in complete contrast to the bottle.
Sadly, the lifespan on skin is mediocre to say the least, but it holds itself well on fabric, and ends up smelling like freshly laundered cotton.

Excessively Overblown Opulence
One day I received a sample vial of this fragrance and, after a brief sniff, left it untouched. The scent seemed trivial and cheap. At some point, I stumbled upon the Shaik fragrances on the ALZD website and nearly had my eyes pop out when I saw the prices. So I had to test it again; could it really be that incredibly boring?

In fact... the scent smells like any random deodorant used by pubescent teenagers, who overdo it excessively as a supplement or even an alternative to showering after sports.

This is simply a rip-off for people with too much money who want to place an "opulent" bottle on their shelf.

You can get far better fragrances for just 1/10 of the price.

If it were actually a €2.30 deodorant, I could mention that the scent is quite long-lasting and you can even catch a hint of naturally occurring nuances like apple amidst a cloud of chemicals. But at €229 for 100ml, I expect more.

What does the Gold Edition for Woman offer, where you have to shell out €590 for 40ml? An even more elaborate bottle?

A Fragrance for Major Nelson (Larry Hagman)!
With brands like Designer Shaik, I often find myself writing a scathing review. This is because these brands disregard any sense of price-value ratio and offer their perfumes at extremely high prices - more expensive than the best Guerlain scents. In such cases, I am merciless: those who are so greedy must be able to present something better than - let’s say - a Chamade pour Homme, an Arsène Lupin Dandy, or a Derby.

Designer Shaik follows the lead of the brand Amouage and presents itself in an Oriental manner. Although the perfumes have no connection to traditional Arabic perfumery, they are, in a sense, beating a dead horse, even worse than Amouage. At least they have tasteful bottles, but those from Designer Shaik all look like Aladdin's magic lamp. So let’s rub it and see which genie is willing to serve us!

Surprise, instead of a grim-looking djinn, we are greeted by a charming Jeannie - No. 77 appears as an optimistic, friendly feel-good fragrance. It sparkles and bubbles like a cross between champagne and soap bubbles! No. 77 is a simple scent in the sense that it does not rely on significant development. Here, various beautiful elements have been harmonized, and it has been quite successful. There are herbal notes, a hint of citrus, lavender for a lovely, “floating” character, and a strongly altered apple note, which is quite rare. Alongside these are somewhat more voluminous, oriental, and spicy notes that never overwhelm and actually make the scent feel opulent. The vanilla is also remarkably well integrated. It really sparkles as beautifully as - well, let’s not exaggerate: like apple cider!

However, there is nothing that hasn’t been done before. In the extremely high-priced niche market, Paolo Gigli has presented Excentrique pour Homme, a feel-good fragrance that is quite similar in style. Just to put things into perspective: both seem to me like variations of the unfortunately long-discontinued, green-herb-sparkling drugstore scent Adventure by Adidas! It was everywhere in the 90s for about 12.95 DM! And it was the best thing Adidas ever released.

Thus, we can view No. 77 as a perfume for those with elevated tastes and increased incomes. Those who rejoiced in the brilliant Adidas scent as poor students in the 90s can now be ripped off by Designer Shaik with a better bank balance. That No. 77 nearly approaches the beauty of Adventure is the best thing one can say about this perfume.

Orient no ... yet a gem
Since I had to make a small transit stop in Bahrain on my way from India to Germany, I had a bit of time to browse the duty-free shops at the airport. They had a truly huge selection of perfumes. However, no perfume brand was showcased as skillfully as Shaik. In a massive glass display case with gemstones, silk scarves, and a small shisha ... really beautiful ... When I then saw the wonderfully beautiful flacons of No 77 and No 33 with an elegant leather box, I knew I had to try them ... It must be the quintessential oriental scent. Unfortunately, you couldn't test them, so I blindly spent 520 euros on both perfumes and bought them.

In the end, I was enlightened otherwise.... Orient ... not a trace. This is not how I imagine 1001 Nights... It smelled more like a very pleasant care scent ... Even though it is not oriental, I was quite taken with the scent, in contrast to No 33, which I did not like at all. The ingredients in No 77 harmonize wonderfully with each other, and especially the vanilla comes through beautifully.

In my opinion, it is a very successful perfume that, with its appearance, presentation, name, and marketing, wants to convey something Arabic but does not do it justice at all.
My conclusion: I love the scent, the flacon, and the longevity (it lasts and lasts and lasts ... something like this is not even in my collection, which already consists of a few perfumes) ... nevertheless, there is a 10% deduction for the fact that the scent initially misled me and the price is quite high (125 ml 270 euros).

Beautifully sweet and floral at the start.
Aromatic notes tone down the sweetness a bit.
Green and fruity towards the end but still very sweet.

Not typically oriental but still beautiful. I can't understand the comparison with Adidas or aftershave - entry-level Arabian!
