Notes that don't mesh
Oud Noir is almost a mix of two different fragrances that don't really have much to do with each other. One is a L'Immensité-like fresh citrus-ambergris-musk (I actually get a lot of grapefruit in the opening even though it isn't listed), and a quite tame jammy rose-oud. The oud reminds me a bit of the mukhallat-style compositions which have that odd honey-like sweetness which isn't really present in the rose or the oud taken separately from each other.
"Noir" is an odd choice of name, given that this is one of the brightest oud compositions I've tried. Even on the bottle it's described as woody and fresh. To me the two accords (more than accords, they're almost two fully fledged perfumes) just don't mesh together that well and it feels a bit like a jumbled mess.
